casserole of my life

Are you my son?

concocted on Thu, 18 Jun 2009 @ 9:39 pm for Parenting

I wonder if all parents say this to their kids? I remember my mom saying this to me. My husband also has the same experience. What am I talking about?

“You’re really not our child. You were abandoned and we picked you up from the garbage.” or “You’re were left at our door.”

So last night, I said something similar to the boy. It was unintentional, but the topic cropped up after he watched last night’s chapter of The Ultimatum and asked me, “Are you my son”? Of course he meant to ask if he’s my son and feeling wicked, I told him that he was swapped at birth like the girls in the drama. Almost immediately, tears welled up in his eyes and I had to assure him with the truth to pacify him. Not satisfied with my answer, he even went to search for his baby photo and asked if that was really him.

I can’t say for sure what prompted me to tease him but I did enjoy watching his reaction. So I can definitely say with certainty that I’m quite a sadist for a mommy!

  1. It’s interesting your son immediately teared up and even took the initiative to check his baby photos to ‘authenticate’ his legimacy! At my times, I only took that as the truth when my parents joked about it… :P
