casserole of my life

Fame or flame?

concocted on Thu, 4 Jun 2009 @ 1:51 pm for Blogging

A reporter from The Straits Times wants to feature me as one of the beauty bloggers in next week’s edition of Urban and they want me to go down to SPH to have my picture taken tomorrow evening.

I agonised over that request for awhile and decided to reject the opportunity for “fame”. Sure, I would love for my blog to be featured as that would mean more exposure and possibly more traffic. However, I thought about it rationally and I don’t think I want to risk my privacy for this.

Although I think the topics I cover in my organic beauty blog are slightly different from the usual but unfortunately, beauty blogging is often thought to be fluffy and I’m not keen for the people I work with to think any lesser of me because of stereotypical thinking.

Plus, it’s such a shallow world out there. Some of them won’t like the fact that I’m an old blogger covering a topic that is often associated with the young and beautiful. Already as it is, people are making judgement based on what I write and saying that I shouldn’t be more than 33 years old!

So nah. I will passed up the opportunity. Maybe I’m thinking too much into this but I certainly don’t want to be flamed for some short term fame.

  1. It’s a good opportunity for publicity but like what you said, it could well compromise your privacy, and that wouldn’t be worth it, especially when family members could be involved.

Wise decision. You have my support. ^^

  2. I respect your decision. Bad side of fame is extra stress in your life and may jeopardize the passion.

  3. WaveSurfer and BT – thanks for your comments. Yes, you’re right; having publicity may not altogether be worthwhile. I certainly don’t want to dampen my enthusiasm for the blog because of these issues.

  5. I think I would trust an older person with beauty tip than a younger one. After all, we have skin harder to please and we’d gone a longer way than those young chickus.

I do go to check out Viva Woman occasionally to see if you have any new nice product introduced.

Btw, you never talked about Fancl.. what do you think about it? I just started my first set.
