I expected him to be sad when he came back home today because the maid has left. To my surprise, he was nonchalant and told me that it doesn’t matter because “auntie is not so important.”
Well, important or not, she took care of him for five years and she was a good helper all round to me. But I decided to let her go because I don’t really need her so much now and I figured out that it is the best course if I want to build the boy’s independence. With her around, it’s quite hard to get the boy to even feed himself. And it has been good so far because he has been feeding himself, brushing his own teeth and learning to bathe even.
It isn’t that difficult without a maid now that the boy is six. Household chores are pretty manageable except that I need to spend less time on the computer and get myself a pair of gloves. Only thing is cooking the meals, which is quite a headache because it’s not exactly my favorite activity in the kitchen.
Well, I guess I have to learn to like doing it a bit more. But for tonight, it’s maggie mee on the dining table. Eggs and vegetable will be added for nutritional value of course.

Chloe is 5.. and we have to bathe her still leh. Do like me. .for food. .the slow cooker..
dump everything in..
and food ready just in time for dinner or lunch. But i’ll take maggie mee anytime now. that i’m in ulu canada.
MB: I used to do that during his first year – dump everything in the pot. Thanks for reminding! I can use that especially for busy days when I have to work longer hours.

I hate to cook too!!
But no choice gotta learn, and yeah, like what mamabok said, dump everything into the slow cooker and let it does ‘magic’..heehee…
Eileen: If it’s the adults eating, not so fussy but I like to cook a variety of dishes for my son like veggies, fish at least. My favorite dish is the soup! Hee…

I am hoping to be maid free in a few years time. K is only 22 months; so looks like I will have to bear with the maid nonsense for the next couple of years. I totally understand the part of the cooking bit, it is not my favorite activity either. Now I am (very) slowly training myself up to cook more than maggi mee and fried eggs
Rachel: I was fortunate to have a good maid. She didn’t give me any problems actually and was extremely reliable. However, she can’t work here forever and going now is a good thing cos the boy can train to be more independent before going to P1. The savings can go into his education too.

Hmm..
I don’t know if I can do w/out a maid though although I know it does help to make the children more independant. I really hate cleaning the house, and doing the laundry.
ZM: I don’t mind housework but I hate cooking and ironing!
