casserole of my life

Green fingers not

concocted on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 @ 4:36 pm for Musings

flower potMy little pot of sweet basil has gone kaput! Because I have no patience providing them with tender, sweet loving care anymore.

I got so tired of having to water the pot of basil a few times a day and also tried of waiting for them to grow. So after looking at how they were all slowly withering away, I told the maid to dig them all out and throw them away.

Yeah, so much for my green fingers! No more plants for me ever! The only one I ever have luck with is the cactus growing outside because it does not require any sort of care. I don’t even have to water it and it is still growing taller by the day!

Can you teach an old dog new tricks?

concocted on Tue, 28 Oct 2008 @ 11:42 am for Eats,Musings

oatsLook what I’m having for breakfast these days. Oats with cereals! Pretty unthinkable considering I used to agonise over my oats as a kid. They tasted yucky and I hated them!

Well, I’m eating them thanks to the influence of my husband. They taste quite yummy with honey and cereals. Not bad at all.

As I eat them now, I can’t help but think about how interesting I’ve changed over the years. Yes, I’m a lot older now, and I maybe jaded in some aspects but my ways are not set. I’m still receptive to new ideas, adaptations and changes. Which is very good news.

So is it true that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Well, I don’t know. I’m not a dog!

Little words of concern

concocted on Thu, 23 Oct 2008 @ 8:50 am for Parenting

There is a flu bug flying around in the house and I’m the last to get it. Usually I’m pretty resilient but if I do fall prey, then it can get pretty severe. For a start, I’ve lost my voice and don’t sound as sweet as before.

The boy was concerned.

For the past two days, he kept coming into the room where I work and asked me if I was getting better. Then last night when we retired to bed, he said, “Mommy, I’m worried.” Apparently, he was worried about my illness! Then this morning, he said he’s sad because I’m still not better.

Though I’m still unwell, but my heart warmed up a lot to the words of concern from my little child. I was surprised he could use such emotional words to show his concern. And it’s certainly a lovely feeling to know he cares for me too.

Couple talk

concocted on Tue, 21 Oct 2008 @ 11:07 pm for Relationships

Daily conversations of the couple obsessed with their physical appearances.

The man shows his tummy to the woman and ask: “How? Any slimmer?”
The woman shows her face to the man and ask: “How? Any younger?”

The woman patronizes the man by answering:”Looks a little slimmer.”
The man patronizes the woman by answering:”Looks a little younger.”

And the only genuine remark they both share is: “Huh? Only a little?”

Chinese tea date

concocted on Mon, 20 Oct 2008 @ 1:14 pm for Family,Parenting

The boy has picked up on drinking Chinese tea!  His grandpa offered him some to try while we were having our morning Bak Kut Teh and the boy loves it!

So yesterday, his dad decided to make Chinese tea at home. The boy was thrilled to bits and called his grandpa to brag about his tea session at home.

But his grandpa was not about to be outdone. He promised to brew the boy more Chinese tea again next week. And so the boy has a tea date now!
