Over tea with a colleague last week, I noticed she was full of disdain for her husband. No, their relationship is not on the rocks but it was obvious she was annoyed with him from the way she expressed her harsh opinions. I guess this is pretty common as I’ve often come across negative comments about spouses from bloggers too. But I did wonder. How far would we go to badmouth our other half?
I asked my husband if he has badmouthed me in front of his friends. And his answer? “Of course lah!” I appreciate his honesty but was unhappy that I was bad enough for him to tell his friends. It seems he has been telling his friends the same story about my poor sense of direction, often relating the incident where I got lost while picking him up and how he has to come in a taxi to pick me up from Ramsgate.
Okay, that was a bit of a joke and I don’t really consider that badmouthing. So it looks like I’m not that bad as a wife. That or maybe he isn’t telling me the truth. Then again, I don’t badmouth him either. HUR HUR HUR.

Hahhahah!! i bad mouth PB all the time.. and in front of him.. muahhaha!! nope.. he ain’t too happy that’s for sure.
MB: Where got? Well, apart from those about him not liking food and not smiling.

huh? After reading, I felt I did not interpret “badmouth” as correctly..
I thought badmouth is ill-speaking, saying something not truth but malign, slander…
wtpg: Over here it’s ill-speaking with exaggeration.

H badmouths me to his friends IN FRONT of me! LOL! Aiyah, nothing serious lah, just complaining that I won’t let him go out to drinks with them and then ask them to beg me for permission to let him join them
DM: Haha…do you ever wonder if he say anything else behind your back? Hee…

I know what you mean. When someone badmouths their spouse in a disdainful manner as you described, it makes me wonder why they are together. I had a friend who would do the same complaining about how her husband is so boring he never tries new things to eat and how he goes through their kids homework etc. It makes me wonder….
mumsgather: It shocks me that their choice of words are rather scathing…
