We saw a hint of two new teeth from his lower gums and thought it’s a good idea to have the relevant milk teeth pulled out so that the new teeth can grow nicely. However, two dental clinics have refused to extract his milk teeth. They told us the milk teeth will get pushed out eventually and extracting them are a waste of money. And we were like ???
Looks like we have to use the thread-door approach that my MIL shared with me. Tie his teeth with a thread. Tie the other end of the thread to the door knob and then slam the door! I’ll report back if this is successful. *cough cough*
Anyway, here’s something he said this morning about being old.
Boy: Mummy, are you so old?
Me: … (rolling my eyes)
Boy: But I also old what!
Me: How come you’re so old?
Boy: Because I’m not so new!
Me: Huh???
Boy: Because last time, you buy me from the supermarket!
*SCRATCHING MY HEAD*

My girl had her new permanent teeth growing behind and parallel with the milk teeth. You can read about it . There may be some useful links in there for you.
mumsgather: Hey, thanks! I took a look. So looks like some dentists are really against pulling out the milk teeth. And thanks to you, now I know they’re called primary teeth.

My dad tried the thread door method on me when I was young and it worked pretty well!
I am a little lost when reading the conversation you had with your son, correction, not a little lost, is completely lost lor! lol!!!
Jan: Never mind. I was blur myself.

Why did he think he was bought from supermarket?
Hahahahaha.. did you say that when you were angry with him?
ZM: Nooo…NEVER. When I’m angry with him, all I say is I’ll give him away.
I’m not too imaginative when I’m angry.

Haha - kids are so funny. At least he thinks he came from a supermarket. My mom told my brother he came from a garbage can and I came through the post mail. =P
MK: Post mail is a nice idea! Heh. Garbage reeks!

my mum always used the hand pulled with string method. I think better. mum said Pulling it upwards will encourage the new one to grow out nicely upwards and not outwards. Dunno whether its true or not.. but looking at my own set of teeth, i think she’s right.
sasha: Ooh…that’s a good tip. I’ll bear that in mind if we have to resort to that.

There is a reason why the dentists won’t pull out the milk teeth for your son.
The milk teeth will help to guide the permanent teeth out, and premature removal of milk teeth will cause the permanent teeth to grow out in a crooked manner.
So it’s not that the dentists don’t want to earn your money by pulling those two milk teeth out. Rather, they’re doing the right thing and at the same time, saving you from the amount you’d need to spend on braces next time.
Justine: Hey, thanks for letting me know about this. It’s definitely good to know. One of the tooth has dropped off by itself so hope the other one will drop off soon too.
