casserole of my life

I’ve known her half my life

concocted on Fri, 29 Feb 2008 @ 9:54 am for Relationships

teaTwenty one years is a fairly long time to know someone.  There were at least five years we didn’t see each other, not even kept in touch via any mode.  But funnily, our friendship only got stronger over time.

A lot of people mistook us for sisters.  Well, we have about the same built I guess.  But that’s about it.  Come to think of it, we’re quite different in many aspects.

She looks fragile, but she’s far more sporting than me.   The woman fences even now!  Unlike me, she loves shopping and she definitely has better dress sense than me.  She’s also good at cooking and craftswork whereas I’m hopeless at those areas.  But, she still doesn’t know how to blog, after having spent a couple of hours showing her how to!

I remember being her bridesmaid at her wedding but I also remember the one time we almost blew our friendship because I was angry with her for having gone overboard teasing me.  I cannot remember how we got back together now, but I recalled slipping a note under her hostel door to tell her to check the examination schedule because I was worried she would have missed it.

So our friendship has come a pretty long way.  From sweet young things to middle age aunties now.  And I can literally say that I’ve known her half my life!

Never badmouth your husband to your kids

concocted on Wed, 27 Feb 2008 @ 3:59 pm for Relationships

Over a gossip session with Godma recently, we both agreed that it’s unwise for a woman to badmouth her husband to her kids, no matter how bad he really is. But just a few days afterwards, I found myself guilty of what I had then condemned.

I was going tsk tsk over a piece of tissue paper left on the bathroom sink, thinking the maid had left it there.  But before I could say another word, my son who was near me blurted, ”MUST BE DADDY!”  That definitely caught me by surprise.  I mean, what made he say that?

Then I realised.  I have been badmouthing the man too much.

Everytime I see crumpled tissue paper left on the table, I grumbled aloud, blaming the dad for the deed, even in the presence of the boy.  That’s how he picked it up.  And the damage cannot be undone.  He’s forever going to associate tissue paper with his dad now.  Crumpled or otherwise.

Did I overreact?

concocted on Tue, 26 Feb 2008 @ 1:32 pm for Parenting

seatbeltLast week, while driving him home from school, I screamt my lungs at him.  He had removed his seat belt midway when we were travelling on the highway just to try to pick up something he has dropped, despite having been warned before that he should never remove his seat belt while the vehicle is on the move.  And what made me uptight was the fact that he still doesn’t know how to put on his own seat belt!

At that moment, I was angry but I exaggerated my anger by screaming at him.  And luckily, I caught the seat belt in time to secure it back for him while still driving.

He was visibly upset and hung his head low.  I felt slightly guilty for having overreacted and screamt at him on purpose but I just didn’t think a firm tick off and an explanation was enough.  I felt a need at that moment to drill into his little head that he should never remove his seat belt at any point of time whilst we’re driving and screaming was the best thing I could do since my hands were on the steering wheel.

I guess I can justify my kneejerk response to the fact that drastic times calls for drastic measures.  Afterall, this is something that concerns his safety and it shouldn’t be dealt with lightly at all.

Chargrilled chicken raves

concocted on Mon, 25 Feb 2008 @ 11:22 pm for Eats

I don’t fancy Western dishes much.  They’ve never appealed to me in so far as my tastebud is concerned.  But the chargrilled chicken from Astons is SCRUMPTIOUS!

And to think that I’ve been depriving myself of such delicious fare for so long despite walking past the stall almost every other day.

Never mind.  At $5.50 a plate, I can make up for all the lost times by eating this daily weekly now!

Takuya Kimura to be Prime Minister of Japan

concocted on Sat, 23 Feb 2008 @ 3:31 pm for Entertainment

Takuya KimuraFantasutikku!  My Takuya Kimura is going to be the Prime Minister of Japan come April!

It’s true!  This is not a rumour.

“In an upcoming unnamed drama which is scheduled to begin airing on Fuji TV’s Monday night drama slot sometime in April, Takuya will play an elementary school teacher who, due to some circumstances, gets involved in the world of politics and eventually becomes the Prime Minister of Japan.”

Eri Fukatsu will co-star as Kimura’s secretary, an ambitious woman aiming to reform the country.  This one I like.  She played the tragic sister to Takuya in the 2002 drama series “Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi.”

And get this.  The script is being written by Yasushi Fukuda, who also wrote the script for Hero.  So I think this is going to be a hit!   The Japanese will definitely be curious to see how Takuya will fare as their PM, even if it’s just on-screen, given their current political state.

Two more months!  But meantime, I’m waking up to his latest Xylish CM at the Meji website.  *drools*
