The age of incessant questioning

concocted on Thu, 27 Dec 2007 @ 11:43 am for Parenting

boyI don’t know when it started but it has been awhile that the boy has been asking all sorts of questions based on who, why, what, where, when.   And I’m not exaggerating that the questioning starts as soon as he’s awake till the moment he’s asleep.

Take watching TV for example.  I hardly watch any television programmes with him but when we do, the questioning never stops.

What’s the man doing?  Why the woman hit him?  Who is the man?  Where the man go?  When is he coming back?  Who is the woman?

I know it’s a normal stage kids go through but I wasn’t expecting the rate those questions roll off his tongue.  He will ask just about anything and I can hardly keep up!  But strangely, I don’t find him irritating at all.  As a matter of fact, I rather enjoy his incessant questioning although I have to admit I can’t always provide him with proper answers and I sometimes have to make things up.

Still, he doesn’t seem to mind.  He just keeps asking!

How to keep my sanity for three maidless weeks

concocted on Wed, 26 Dec 2007 @ 11:29 am for Family

paOur maid has gone home this morning and for the next three weeks, I won’t be waking up to a piping hot cup of tea.  Breakfast won’t be waiting for me and my bed would not be made either.  These little things that I have come to take for granted on a daily basis would certainly become things that I would come to relish.

Not to mention I have to do my own laundry, ensure the house is in a livable condition and basically keep our routines going.  Which means not only will I not have the luxury of my me time, life will probably descent into a state of chaos for a while.  But to maintain my sanity, I have already pre-warned the man not to contribute to the mess by keeping his change of clothes to a minimum, put all towels in their right place and not to leave things lying around.   The boy was told to be more cooperative and his role is to learn to operate his own toys without bothering me at all.  (Arrgh…I have no idea how to transform those autobots!)

As for me, I will have to learn to live offline for now.  And to make sure I don’t break down too quickly, I’ve already got a few entries pre-written up for my blogs.  Yesiree, I’m quite a superb planner, I know.  Let’s just hope those plans are sustained and these three weeks do not become MADNESS!

P/S:  Planning is good for this week only.

Embroidered x’mas greeting

x'mas embroidery

My son asked me, where is Santa?  I told him the man is hibernating, but he’s got his present ready.

Have a Merry X’mas everyone!

No present, no talk

concocted on Sat, 22 Dec 2007 @ 11:50 pm for Parenting

presentI never give much thoughts to Christmas presents for the boy.  His dad on the other hand is always planning ahead.  But this year, he really has to put in more work on that front, considering how his son has been thinking of him lately.  Or more precisely, what his son just said of him last night.

“I don’t want daddy to play with me.  I only want mummy.  Daddy go out.  I like daddy just because of the presents.”

I was appalled by what my five-year-old said.  Just because of the presents.  And I didn’t have to repeat to the man because he heard it loud and clear with his own ears.

This is what you get when you subscribe to materialism and use presents to buy favors from a child, even if it’s an occasional “if you’re naughty, daddy won’t buy you presents.”  And once that connection is made, it’s kind of hard to cut it off unless you want to risk a total rejection.

Er…no present, no talk.

Embroidery for my boy

concocted on Thu, 20 Dec 2007 @ 1:36 pm for Arts&Crafts

My boy was exceptionally whiney last evening so I did this just to keep him happy.

fountain embrodiery

It’s very easy.  Took me about 20 mins.  But the end result isn’t too ideal.  The thread used for the fountain is too thick and the darker threads are also showing through the the thin material.  Still, he loves it.

I might attempt some X’mas embroidery next, if I can spare the time.
