casserole of my life

Why do I covet money that is filthy?

concocted on Wed, 21 Nov 2007 @ 7:39 am for Commentaries

filthy moneyOne of the reasons I hate going to the wet market is because of the money.  The change that I get from the butcher, the fishmonger or the poultry seller are real grimy.  I would love to scrub them clean if I can.

In fact, come to think of it, except for new notes, all money becomes dirty after awhile, and are probably contaminated with some amount of bacteria.  Yet we never reject them, no matter how soiled they are.  I mean, have you heard anyone saying, “I don’t want the money because it’s dirty”?  Well I haven’t.

Ha. I can write contemptuously about money but of course I can’t live without it. Especially now that I need more of it for petrol.  And oh, to get pass that damn CTE gantry even after 9.30am.

  2. Yes.. the good old toll charges at all the gantries.

MB: Now it’s a new set of charges for us here…even during off-peak period.

  3. oh yes, also sometimes the loose change from the food hawkers can be oily too! but well I cannot say no to them either. :)

msff: Oh ya, those at the hawks can get quite dirty…but I still think cannot beat those from the wet market…bits of raw meat…fishscales… :?

  4. eh… didn’t u enable the comments already. :P

Luckily, I don’t have to handle the $ notes often here in US. We use credit card all the time, even for our grocery purchase. hehee…

By the way, I hope Gavin is feeling much better now. :)

CM: Credit card everywhere? That’s much more convenient and hygienic for sure!

    Gavin is better now…thanks!

The comments…haha…back itchy…also had some pple asked why I deprive them of scratching my back.

  5. ya, join the club….i always try not to keep the change i get from the market into my wallet/purse….will leave it in the open to air it….

There were so many times I nearly washed the notes because they were so stinko and imagine hanging it out to dry on the clothes hanger, like those big sweep tickets you see hanging at the counter…kekekeke

Jan: Hanging it out like laundry? Haha…that’s an interesting idea.

  6. I never carry money around with me, part of being slightly OCD blesses me with the ability to notice exactly how dirty it is…okay so it’s not a blessing but in cases like this is might just be!

Amy: You don’t carry money around? Hmmm…so I’m guessing you use more credit cards then?

  7. When i do visit wet market, i try to make sure i have lots of loose notes and coins with me, so that i can give the exact amount…this way, i don’t have to receive any wet and oily notes and coins from them..hee hee.. :P

Eileen: I try to use up the money I have too…but it’s not always possible lah…

  8. Maybe there will come a time when we will all be using debit cards. :)

Btw, I was able to recover your comments from my post. I’m sorry, haven’t been going through my spam box.

niceheart: Hey, not a problem. I seem to have that problem with a few wordpress blogs that I visited.

  9. I try to use up all those grimey or wet notes in the market itself. Fish mongers’ change, give to poultry seller, poultry sellers’ change give to vege seller. Try not to mix those ‘contaminated’ notes together with the non-contaminated ones.

Whoever doesn’t want these notes, can always pass to me.. I’m more than happy to help you to ‘recycle’. :P

ZM: I also say the same…I can help recycle… hee…
