casserole of my life

How my relationships have changed my diet

concocted on Fri, 2 Nov 2007 @ 2:09 am for Eats, Relationships

greensI never used to eat much greens.  No, in fact I hated greens.  The only veggies I would eat were carrots, tomatoes and cabbages.  I avoided leafy vegetables like the plague and can refuse to eat a plate of noodles because of the bean sprouts.

But my intake of veggies gradually increased overtime after getting married.  The man loves his greens so we would cook more leafy vegetables and of course I would end up eating some of them, inevitably.  I slowly acquired a taste for eating chye sim, kai lan, bok choi, bean sprouts and am able to stomach more onions and garlics.

Then with my boy growing up, I started cooking even more vegetable dishes, especially since he is fond of any form of veggies, and can even eat onion raw!   So these days, I start to eat brocolli, cauliflower and capsicums because the boy loves these.

I can’t help thinking about how my diet has changed because of my family.  I am now eating stuff that I used to hate since I was a child!  While there are still some veggies I would never put in my mouth like french beans, long beans, bitter gourd or ladies’ fingers, I can safely say I have eaten more greens in these 10 years than I ever had in my 30 years, pre-marriage!
