casserole of my life

He has girl phobia

concocted on Thu, 11 Oct 2007 @ 10:43 am for Parenting

Girls are bad!  Girls are naughty!  Girls disturb me!

I have a big headache.  My boy is afraid of girls.  In fact, he doesn’t like going to school because he’s afraid of a particular girl, whom he said has been going round scratching boys’ legs.  Whenever I bring him to school, I can see the fear in his eyes when he looks at her.

You’re a boy!  Why are you afraid of a girl?

So unlike other mothers who are afraid of their sons disturbing girls, I now have to deal with a son who is adverse to girls.  I’m even more worried that he might grow up to be like a teen of mine who cannot look at girls or talk to them properly at the age of 17.

I have no clue on how to deal with this.  I don’t want him growing up with a girl phobia but neither do I want him getting hot about girls sooner.  Hello, he’s only coming 5.

  2. The girl goes around scratching boys’ legs?? I’d be afraid of her too! Hahaha!

Your boy will get over it. Maybe let him interact with girls who don’t scratch boys’ legs? :D

moby: Now he thinks all girls are scratchers!!!

  3. No worries. I guess its part of growing up. Do you remember the noise the children made in primary school when their teacher ask the guys to hold the gal’s hand while walking along the corridor?

DK: Hold hands? Hmmm…cannot remember leh…

  4. I guess it’s a growing phase too :)

However I do told my girls not to afraid and taught them some defensing skill
    - avoid playing with them
    - run away when they approach you
    - if unavoidable, ask them to stop doing so, as it hurt
    - still continue, tell the teacher

haha, the teacher must be very busy then :p)

wtpg: I taught him how to stand up for himself and how to defend but still, he’s afraid and now it’s getting so bad he’s clinging on to me again every morning.

  5. No worries, it’s a passing phase. It’s a young boy thing too. Dill had this so-called “phobia”, I would call it “shyness” instead.

That said, do watch out for bullying in school, or if the girls goes too far. It can get out-of-hand, and may create some psychological problem for your child later on.

When T1 was in kindergarten, a boy kept disturbing her in the school van, until she was so afraid to go to school. I had to tell the boy’s grandmother (no parents) who didn’t know what to do either. LOL, I even had different methods teaching her how to deal with the boy. One day, T1 told him off, which shocked the boy, and her fear went away too.

ee: *sigh* My boy is too timid…I need to feed him more guts.
