Yesterday, we got into a bit of a dengue scare with the boy. Some red dots had developed round his neck and upper chest and while they looked like rashes, they were not.
Initially I thought he had caught the hand foot and mouth disease with the sores and uclers found in his mouth. But the doctor thought it might be dengue and wanted me to bring him to Mt Alvernia Hospital for a blood test.
I wasn’t convinced that he could have dengue. How could it be? I’m certain he has no mosquito bites because I make sure he gets his rub of Badger’s Anti-Bug Balm before every sleep. I also had dengue before and those red dots definitely didn’t look dengue like. Plus, he wasn’t running a fever either.
Anyway, to cut the long story short, by the end of the day, we established that those dots were allergies from a new antibiotics prescribed to him and I never did bring him for the blood test. He is now recovering well and the red dots have also subsided. So have the uclers in his mouth as he has been chatting non-stop this morning telling me that he’s well enough to go out to see cactus and aeroplanes.
But I was really at a complete loss at the point when the doc told me to send him to Mt Alvernia. My mind drew to a blank. Well, not so much the blood test per se but the one thought that came to my mind at that point was – how the hell do I drive my way to the hospital even though it’s supposedly just 10 mins away from the clinic???

thank goodness it wasn’t dengue….recently it does seems to have loads of things raising the panic button in mummies……there is the scary fever that doesn’t go away and the vomit inducing cough and finally the one that takes the chart….dengue….
I can understand how lost for thoughts that moment the doctor asked you to bring Gavin for a blood test. I was equally lost and confused the time the doctor told me Rayner had to be admitted. Zillions thoughts were racing thro my mind and I wasn’t sure what or how to think. haiz
Jan: Yup, lost. That was the word.

Phew.. luckily it was just a scare and nothing more than that.
Btw, my friend from New York told me Badger anti bug cream isn’t that good. I haven’t used it before. The sunblock I have to say is really good, but for anti bug, I found our local ones are better (Burts Bees too doesn’t work that well, and it’s really oily).
ZM: Not sure why your friend didn’t like it. I find it good…at least for Gavin. It keeps the bugs at bay and when there is a bite, I rub this on, it subsides quickly. Maybe your friend has come across better ones…
