Tag: Blogging tips

I received a tag from Mumsgather to share my blogging tips and since I do have some to share, I wanna play.   To keep things simple, I shall just focus on three areas.

Blog content
While we all know that good content is important, reading a long entry is something else.  We are swarmed with loads of information everyday and usually do not have the luxury of time to read something long.  So keep contents concise and simple whenever possible and if it needs to be long, break it with suitable headings and pictures or break your entry into two or more posts.

Blog aesthetics
Good contents aside, I find the design of a blog very important because looks do matter.  Invest some time to customize your blog template or header if possible and always think design, not decoration.  If that’s too hard, the least is to keep your blog clean with wider margins and less clutter.  And if you’re on wordpress, remember you can always create new pages to put up your links and other miscellaneous information.

Blog interaction
As blog readers, we should practise basic comment etiquette, exercise some common sense EQ and not to shoot from the hip when making comments.  I have come across some comments on this blog which sound like what my MIL would say to me; criticial comments on my parenting skills or lack of and making smart-alecky comments that I should or shouldn’t be doing something.  It’s easy to say or write something but try to put yourself at the receiving end.  Do you like what you’re reading?  So I say, comment onto others as you would wish them comment onto you.

These are not the best tips of course but they’re based on my experience and what has worked for me as a blogger and blog reader.   So feel free to add to them if you like.

  1. Great tips! I agree with Point 1 and 3.
#1 Keep it short and sweet. However sometimes I tend to get carried away … My posts end up soooo long even I don’t feel like reading them. Lol! I think 2-3 paragraphs is the best and break up into point form even better.
#3 Don’t comment if you have nothing nice to say

However I’m pretty bad at #2. It takes time to play around with your blog template and I prefer to use that time to write instead. I’m still pretty bad with using wordpress and I’ve stuck to my old blogger template stubbornly because I’m too lazy to switch to the new. This means less $$ for me in text link ads which does not support the old blogger but the task of changing templates etc seem monumental to a non-techy person like me. Hehe.

mumsgather: Yes, it takes time to play around twigging the template. Can completely understand.
