casserole of my life

My blogging boundaries defined

concocted on Tue, 21 Aug 2007 @ 8:49 am for Blogging

Increasingly, I’m receiving more emails from fellow bloggers or readers asking me for my personal information or suggesting a meet up. Let me put on record once and for all that I value my privacy highly and will not entertain these requests.

I’m also aware that I’ve gone round some blogs saying that I don’t believe in friendship via blogging.  I probably come across very aloof but that is my take and I stand firm on that.

My personal blog is a sanctuary where I bare my feelings and my thoughts.  Some of these are not even privy to my closest of friends.  The reason why I do not invite my friends to read my blog is because there is a limit as to what I will reveal to them, and likewise, there is a limit to what I will reveal to my blog readers.

On one hand, I value the interaction I have with many of the bloggers but on the other hand, I like to stay detach.  And this is only because I have a problem with the term friendship.  If I deem anyone somewhat like a friend, then I expect more support, more consideration and minimal judgement altogether.

So I really prefer a detached relationship in blogging without the vested emotions and personal feelings involved.  That’ll hopefully help me to retain more objectivity when I’m reading blogs and also remind me not to shoot from the hip when I’m leaving comments.

  5. I’ve always liked your honesty and I appreciate it.

I think for me, if i were to go travelling back to Asia and someone wanted to meet me, I’d have my reservations too. It’ll all depend on my mood. I’m fickle – if I’m up for an adventure, then sure. If not, I’d rather just tour about with my family and blog about it. I just don’t want the added pressure of feeling obligated to meet up with people.

Irene: Yeah, more impromptu…that’ll be better.

  8. To each his (or her) own. I like your honesty – you say it as it is and it’s definitely your prerogative. I admit I am a complete opposite from you. Not that I’m keen to meet fellow bloggers, but I wouldn’t mind. Unlike you however, my blog is known among my friends and family. Which is why I watch what I say. Nothing is posted that I wouldn’t repeat to anyone in person.

Hsin: Don’t know why but I just find it funny to let my friends and family read my thoughts and feelings…not that I do not share with them at all. I have no problems sharing with strangers, but a different story when it comes to pple I know. And on the other hand, I don’t like it when I deem pple online encroaching on my personal space because well, I really don’t know them well…
