casserole of my life

Upskirt voyeur?

concocted on Tue, 31 Jul 2007 @ 2:52 pm for Parenting

This is it.  I am not going apparel shopping with my 4.7 year old ever.  Especially not in those shops with mannequins donned in mini skirts.  Because twice in two weeks, I caught him peeping under their miniskirts!

The first time it happened, I alerted his dad but the man wasn’t paying attention to what I said.  Then over this weekend, the man caught the boy red handed in the act himself and got rather upset over it.  He thinks the boy is getting too way ahead biologically and becoming sexually inquisitive.

I didn’t think it was that initially, dismissing it as a kid’s curiosity.  But after listening to what his dad said, I started to get a bit worried.   I tried searching for some articles on this and it seems that this is all part of a healthy discovery stage.  But still, I am confounded.  He’s a pre-schooler for goodness sake!  How am I going to deal with this?  And as I looked at his dad for an answer, the man clearly didn’t know how to go about this as well.

So for now, until we get this figured out, the short term strategy is to keep him away from the mannequins with the mini skirts.

Far far away.

  1. Boys tend to get sexually curious at a younger age from what I’ve read. I don’t think there’s much cause for concern.

I still remember that when I was 5 years old and actually catching my female cousin bottom-less. It was then that I started wondering why they don’t have what I have, and if not, how do they do the pee-pee?

    Childhood, lol!

  2. I’m actually very scared to see little boys following their mothers into the washrooms or fitting rooms after having encountered a few who had the bad habit of peeking into my cubicle and worse, when the mothers think I’m too uptight to freak out over this.

  3. I like your plan of avoiding the tempting mannequins. Out of sight, out of mind, eh?

  5. I feel the same with DR.. when lil’ boys try to peep into the changing rooms. Many thousand years ago.. when i was still a teenager.. a lil’ boy came up to me.. when i was using the public telephone.. and came right up.. and squeezed my boobs..!!! can die or not.. !! and this lil’ boy must be not more than 7 yrs old.. a malay boy at that.. !! no racial discrimination.. mind you .. but you know at malay kampungs.. when i was much younger.. and the woman wears sarong.. and half naked most times..! i wonder .. what goes into the lil’ boy’s mind. So is it us..?? or is it.. just norm..?? for a child to be this curious..??

  6. ooh, that’s rather disturbing discovery you made there. So far so good, I have never caught Rayner peeping under the mini skirts of mannequins. Let’s hope he doesn’t start doing it anytime soon……*cross fingers and toes*

  7. I think it’s nothing to worry about as I believe it’s a passing phase like them touching their private parts.

Zara too sometimes like to peek under the skirt to see what’s down there.. but maybe b’cos she’s a girl, it doesn’t bother me that much.

  8. Hi Sesame, long time no ‘talk’ to you.. :)

That behaviour.. I have seen it of my two daughters too and only reason I did not panic is because they are girls.. but I could have been paranoid and think otherwise…

Well, I just think this is just curiosity on the part of the child, and a little bit of restlessness. So don’t worry too much k.

  9. Thanks everyone for your comments. Yeah, I guess it’s mostly him being curious but I just need to watch him more and see how it goes.
