After watching the movie, the man went berserk and hunt down the whole town just to get these Transformers. Of course, being the saver in the family, I went tsk tsk over the big bag when he came back from Toys “R” Us. And his excuse? He’s our only son what.
It’s a bit hard to argue on that front with him but frankly I don’t really like this very much as I’m never one who believes in splurging on the kid when it comes to his apparel or toys. Yes, I would buy him some toys on and off, but there’s always a budget and I would never buy in bulk like the man do. I don’t really care what others do or think but I find it very hard to justify spending money unnecessarily on my kid because materialism is not something I want to inculcate in him so early.
But still, I didn’t want to quarrel with him over this particular indulgence and let them have their fun. I know he did this out of love for the boy and also to compensate for his own deprived childhood. And to think about it, it isn’t so bad because the toys are going to be shared by two boys. The small one and the big one.

wahahahah. your last sentence is priceless!

I grew up in the era with transformers. I would loved to get the toys as well if they weren’t that expensive!
Parents nowadays are spoiling their children real bad. This is no surprise since most family have one 1 or 2 children. With earning both parents out earning their daily bread and butter, teaching of the child becomes the duty of the maid.
Can they be called parents?
motd: Can…parents with no parenting skills lor.

That’s also what I thought, that he bought the toys not just for the son, but also for himself.
Like you, I also don’t believe in splurging on children, even if there’s only one, lest they get spoiled. It’s important to let them realize that they can’t have anything in the world. But I guess, once in a while splurging won’t hurt, especially if he gets playing/bonding time with his dad.
niceheart: Hiaz…I don’t know. Bonding with toys is not exactly what I have in mind…

wah, that really quite a handful of toys he bought, did he buy out the whole of toy r us??? These transformers don’t come cheap…..I was looking at the bumblebee transformer (yellow colour one) but seeing the price tag, I still left the shop empty handed….kekeke
Like you, occasionally I will buy toys for the kids but when it comes to books, i see i buy…..at least books are beneficial right? kekeke
Jan: Books are good! I tend to buy him more books too, than toys.

Oh yeah.. it’s better for him to buy something that he can play with Gavin, than splurging on gadgets that only he have access to.
zm: Ya, that’s true.
