casserole of my life

Side-by-side with my child

concocted on Thu, 28 Jun 2007 @ 7:56 pm for Blogging,Parenting

Realistically, how do I juggle time at home between blogging and spending time with my four-year-old?

This is how.

He hijacks my PC to play his games, surf the web or checks out pictures on Flickr.   I log in my wordpress blogs and bang away on the keyboard of my notebook.  Side-by-side.

We interact by chatting and laughing together.  Sometimes he tells me something new he has discovered.  Sometimes I teach him to spell a word or two.  He’s happy as long as we’re side-by-side.

Quality time.  Blogging and parenting.  Heh.  Save the whining.

  1. your boy is so smart! Kids these days can surf internet so easily at such a young age. I can remember when i was that age, I doubt I even know how to use a PC!

msff: It’s not that you didn’t know but rather you were less exposed to it that’s all. Kids these days have to start early…

  2. An excellent solution. You’re so smart. As is your son, come to think of it.

ally: Ha. Like mother, like son right?

  4. Sometimes, that is just the way to do it. With only one computer in the house, we can’t do that though. Sometimes, I would spend some time with my youngest one first, then he won’t bother me when I do go to the computer. But most of the time, I go online when they are all in bed.

niceheart: But your kid isn’t whiney anymore!

  6. sesame, when my daughters were your son’s age, i introduced educational programs in reading, math, history, and science, and they loved them.

Belle: No wonder your girls are so brilliant!

  7. Haha.. nice!

Soon.. I’ll probably have to buy a pc for Zara for this purpose.. right now, she wants to sit on my lap and ask me to show her stuff on Youtube.

ZM: It started that way for me too but now he’s able to operate the mouse quite well by himself…
