The boy has been picking up my words of late, parroting everything that I’m telling him. Work and busy are two words he like to use in particular.
“I got WORK to do….tomorrow I got to do some WORK. I got colouring and writing…tomorrow I must WORK at school.”
Then last night he told me this while in bed:
“I got WORK to do. I must do my WORK. I got to play my toys…my games. I got many games to play. I’m very BUSY. I’m so BUSY.”
Good thing I’ve been controlling my tongue and not uttered vulgarities while in his presence these days. But my Ah Beng rap has apparently rubbed off him as well cos I just heard him saying “Au Au Pong Sai Gao” earlier today.
That’s woof woof fluffy head dog in Hokkien by the way.
Okay, better mental rap from now on.

Man, that’s a tough one! Asked my closet ah beng hubs and even he was stumped.
DR: He didn’t listen to the rap I suppose. Otherwise should be able to pick that up…

This is what we call Damien these days – parrot…he’ll repeat whatever we said…very frustrating at times..so i always asked him: “Are you a parrot?” and he’ll replied: “Yes, i’m a parrot..i like being a parrot you know?” *slaps head*
Eileen: Haha…Damien is so cute…

I only know the pong sai gao thing, but cant figure out the au au! and I am so tickled that your boy is speaking like an adult ie work and busy etc etc…
msff: Actually I just guess the au au since it’s related to the dog…

Does he say with authority? Like some busy big shot?
It’s really cute to see kids using words and tone adults use.
ZM: Ya boy, he says it with such intensity it sounds very convincing…until you hear the toys and games of course.

hehehe, kids do emulate parents. he is such a cutie! i used to say words in my dialect whenever i was mad at my daughters. and know what, they picked it up and throw those words on me occasionally just for fun. am glad that i avoided uttering vulgarities around my children.
Belle: But your daughters are all grown up and doing fine…so no worries on that front. They must have emulated only the best.
