I just came back from another session with the kids and one of my 11-year-olds not only dramatically burst into tears but ran out of the class and threatened suicide because his classmates couldn’t guess the word of a charade game. Really can die!
How come kids these days are so emotional? I’ve seen a number of kids, but it’s the first time I’ve met such a fellow and come face-to-face with such behaviour. It seems he’s always like that which is why the others avoid him like plaque. In fact, he’s been causing a lot of trouble throughout the sessions and the funny thing is he isn’t even the one identified with ADHD.
But he’s really unlucky to get me because I don’t fall for such bluffs easily. Call me cold-hearted but I just ignored him. And when he proceeded to lie on the floor, wanting to cool down, I asked him to go and lie elsewhere. That got him and he went back to his seat and sulk for the rest of the time.
Good thing I only get to see some of these kids like once in a quarter. Otherwise the one who’s going to commit suicide is me.

An ELEVEN year-old threatening SUICIDE??!! Gosh, what has he been watching on the box?! :O
DT: My guess also about the TV. I think he just wants attention.

“How come kids these days are so emotional?”
You pose a good question. I see it too. I think that DT may be on to the answer– too much tv. But it does seem odd for a kid to threaten suicide.
ally: Yeah, you should have seen him threatening to jump down from the 2nd storey and his classmates dragging him away.

Wow..!! i wouldn’t know how to handle kids like that..!
MB: It’s tiring to handle kids like that on a daily basis. I don’t know how their t’chers do it.

Hmmm…. the boy sounds as if he could be facing some family crisis cz’ usually, children from such families will crave for some form of attention through either suicide or something dramatic.
I kind of pity this kid ;-( Sounds like an unhappy child.
SSF: I don’t know. I thought of that too. And they’re supposed to be gifted leh…

So drama! I wouldn’t know how to handle as well! But it seems that kids nowadays are more mature and emotional than our times huh?
Eileen: Cos of all the mass media influences probably…

want to die just because his friends cuoldn’t guess the word?!?!?!?……what’s up with kids these days….Rayner is also like this, when he is trying to tell me something but I don’t get what he is trying to say, he gets very irritated and aggitated….always have to remind him to calm down and cool down and tell me slowly and try to explain further and clearly.
Go and lie down somewhere else! woahahaha, you one steady and cool teacher/lecturer leh……heehee
Jan: Yah, that was my point. He was so agitated over a game. And I asked him how is he going to go to sec school with such behaviour…

And I thought only toddlers throw such tantrums.. boy.. does it mean if I’m not careful, my kids may still throw such a stunt when they grow up bigger?
ZM: I don’t believe yours will grow up close to this. I seldom see kids behaving this extreme. Even those of his age group were shaking their heads and avoiding him.
