casserole of my life

Cold crisis

concocted on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 @ 3:50 pm for Family

A couple of days ago, our 10-year-old fridge failed on us.  Well, I don’t know about others but it was a mini crisis for me.  I DIDN’T QUITE KNOW WHAT TO DO!

I thought about calling the service man but didn’t know who to call.  I called my mum but her phone was transferred to the answering machine.  I couldn’t get my brother either.  And no, I definitely didn’t want to consult my MIL.  No, not her for sure.

So I was like, DIE!  What should I do with the food in the fridge?  It was mid afternoon and I needed to keep my boy’s fish and meat cold and fresh before cooking them for his dinner.

Lucky, my man was around then.  He waited for me to run around a bit and then suggested we head to the stores to buy a new one as repairing a 10-year-old fridge  wasn’t worth it.  So despite the sentimental value attached to the fridge which was a gift from my mum, I heeded his advice.

It took us two stores to finally find one that fit the space we have, but the bad news was that it could only be delivered the next afternoon.  In the meantime, our frozen food found their way to my MIL’s fridge and everything was more or less back to normal by the time the new fridge arrived.

Looking back, I have to say thank goodness the man was around that day.  If he was away, seriously, I’m not sure if I can handle buying a fridge myself.  It’s laugable to think that a middle-age woman who is usually independent can suddenly become a damsel in distress when her fridge doesn’t work.  Yeah, I feel kind of embarrassed just putting this down even.

Well, I have to say that when it comes to the crux, he’s always the one who is cooler, calmer and more collected.  In fact,  in my memory,  there was only one time when he appeared really flustered.  And that was the night my amniotic sac broke and he realised that our son was going to pop.

  2. Hee… I like your last part…..can imagine your man’s face when your amniotic sac broke! Cz’ CC was equally as flustered when mine broke too ;-)

Yup, that’s why we should never take our hubby for granted, right? No matter how independent we are, there will be times when we just need them around for certain things. A pat on the shoulder for all the good, old hubbies ;-)

SSF: Hahaha…I think all fathers-to-be have the same expression and thought process when their wives’ bags broke!
