Gavin was very tickled by a particular Doraemon cartoon where Nobita’s mum was relating her childhood story to her son. He kept coming to me and asking me about mummy’s old house. So I thought maybe I should show him some of our childhood photos.
The boy was very excited when I brought out the two old albums. Albums which I did for myself and my hubby charting our growing up days. But his excitement didn’t last too long. It soon gave way to bewilderment and disbelief when I showed him our kiddie pictures, explaining that we were once babies and little children like him and now we’ve grown up to become daddy and mummy.
Something must have struck him at that moment because he suddently stood up on the bed and exclaimed: “Can I not grow up? Can I grow down?” And when I asked him why, he couldn’t explain but just kept saying he doesn’t want to grow up, and even asked me if he can become a dinosaur or a Doraemon.
He was quite disturbed the whole night and kept repeating those lines until he fell asleep. Then in the morning when he woke up, the first thing he said to me was “I don’t want to grow up.”
Now, did he see something we didn’t? Was tragedy or angst written all over our faces? Maybe he doesn’t like how growing up looks? Or perhaps he just wants to remain small and be loved and pampered always?
Well, maybe…just maybe…he has already grappled the concept of slave and slave-driver?

It is quite ironical, isn’t it? That when we were younger, we wished for ourselves to grow up faster, at least for me. And now, I wish that I could be back to my teens.
DR: I haven’t really thought about going back in time…but perhaps to my twenties would be nice.

Gavin is not alone…just the other day, Damien told me he don’t want to grow up too..that he wanted to remain a small baby so that everyone can love and carry and take care of him forever…
Perhaps they did ’see’ how we adults ’slog’ for our lives everyday…
Eileen: I think it’s the pampering privilege they want to keep…

For Nutty… it’s the exact opposite. She has been putting baby powder on her face after her shower each morning, wearing her toy dangling earrings and tiny heels which I bought for her. Been telling me she wants to be an adult.
My silly gal…. told her it’s better to be a child cz’ adults have many things to do, and she told me she likes being an adult cz’ an adult can do so many things.
Faint man……..
Hey, your album looks very nicely done up. Have you tried bookscraping before? Think you are somebody who would like to do that.
There is a shop at Plaza Singapura….level 3. It’s called Made with Love. Sells all the bookscraping materials and have samples displayed. Check it out the next time u visit the mall….. u might get hook onto it like me
SSF: Nutty so cute. I think she wants to beautiful like her mama lah…
