casserole of my life

Ten years and still counting

concocted on Thu, 22 Feb 2007 @ 8:25 am for Relationships

My husband calls me all sorts of names these days.  Unflattering names aimed at personal attack.

First, it was HOBBIT.  Because I’m vertically challenged.  Then, it became ELEPHANT.  Just because I’ve accidentally stepped on his little toe.

You think I should be angry right?  But yet I think it’s funny.  In fact, the first time I heard him blurt out ELEPHANT at me, I actually laughed so hard till I almost rolled on the floor.

Strange isn’t it?

Maybe it’s just me.  Or maybe this is what happens because we’ve been married for 10 years.

We’ve not only turned a blind eye to each other’s imperfections, but actually accept the nonsense that comes with the package and even lap up wicked humor from the other with no ill feelings.

Of course there were moody days, there were stormy days and there were ugly days.  Ours was never a bed of roses.  Even if it was, there were many thorns in between sharp enough to prick us to tears and blood.  But we live and let live.  And at least we struggled through the darkest hours of our lives together, staying committed to be as one.

So I’m glad that I’m able to wake up bright and cheery today.  It doesn’t matter if we don’t exchange gifts.  It doesn’t even matter if we don’t celebrate.  What’s important is that we’re still happy together today.

Happy Tin wedding anniversary to us!  And may we spend more years together, calling each other uncouth names, without getting too much on each other’s nerves, still.

She remembers me

concocted on Fri, 16 Feb 2007 @ 3:35 pm for Relationships

She finally took me out today.  After such a long long time.  I’ve been collecting dust in this little corner along with the others and each time she comes by, it’s only to get her bags or accessories.

I thought she has forgotten me.  Well, apparently not.  Anyway, how could she?

I was afterall, the first gift he bought her.  Then, they haven’t even started their romance.   Not officially in that sense.  There were obstacles and they didn’t even know if they could be together.

She was rather touched when I was given to her as a X’mas gift.  I vividly remember how she placed me on her lap and looked at me so sentimentally while stroking my head.  I felt so good.  Really good.  I think she did too.

Over the years, he bought her a few more bears.  They became my friends.  And we’re all sitting lonely in that little corner waiting for her to stroke us again.

Today she remembered.  She took me out and looked at me with those eyes again.

I wonder why.

Maybe its because their wedding anniversary is approaching?

Hmm…I wonder.

The Chinese New Year menu

concocted on Thu, 15 Feb 2007 @ 4:00 pm for Eats, Family

chinese new year orangesI’ve been busy these few days preparing for Chinese New Year.  Well, just running around getting food and groceries for the reunion dinner mainly.

And it’s such a chore.

Last year we ate out and it was great.  No need to create the shopping list.  No need to buy the food.  No need to jam up the freezer.    It was so relaxing that we even have time for a bowling game afterwards.  But this year we’ll have to be preparing dinner by 3pm or earlier and probably be kept busy till midnight.

Actually dinner was already booked but my in-laws wanted to eat in this year hence the trouble.  Anyway, I’ll only be preparing the foodstuff for the steamboat.  The man will still have to do the bulk of the cooking.  On the menu are sharkfin’s soup and drunken prawns which I’ve specially requested.

And this is what I said to egg him on:

Since you don’t de-shell prawns for me anymore now, you must at least cook the prawns to feed me.
