I hate going to the wet market. It’s arduous business to me even though I go only once a week to buy fresher fish and meat for my boy. Oh, the crowd, the smell and generally the place just turns me off. But it is something I have to do.
I remember my mum going to the market once a week too. However, she had much more to buy considering the size of our household. It would always be a trolley full of meat, fish and vegetables. Fortunately, the market was near our house and she could walk there. However my dad always made it a point to drive her there, or at least picked her up when she was done with all her marketing. It was their weekly routine throughout their marriage.
I don’t know about others but I think it means a lot to a woman if the husband is willing to accompany her to the market or wait for her to be done with the marketing. At least I think my mum’s once-a-week chore was less dreadful with my dad around.
So maybe I can safely say that my marriage of 10 years is still doing fine. Because thank goodness my husband is still willing to go marketing with me without complaining too much. Then again, maybe it’s because he knows he will have food to eat.

I count myself lucky. Sometimes the man does the marketing himself as long as I provide him with a list of things to buy. In fact, he’s better at choosing meats. I can’t tell which slice is better.
DR: He wouldn’t mind if I get him to do the marketing. But the problem is…I may complain about what he buys cos he’s always buying too much of everything!

Wow..!! so romantic..!! even after 10 yrs..! PB hates to go shopping.. !! i can see his exasperated look most times.. although he tries to hide it.
MB: Some men likes to shop but I think most men are like Papa Bok…wouldn’t want to go shopping unless really required.

Oh.. you mean it’s a good sign if the hubby is willing to go to the wet market with us?
Hmm.. thn it’s a good sign for me. He goes with me almost all the time, and now with 2 girls, he’s doing the marketting while I stay home with the girls.
ZM: Personally I think it’s a good sign cos marketing is really mundane. If he’s even willing to do it on your behalf, I say good for you!

My husband loves to go to the grocery. Like you said, he likes to know what he’s going to be eating and he likes to know how money is being spent. What better place for him to accomplish two goals at once than at the grocery?!!
ally: Good for you. I think it’s good to have spouses or partners who are willing to do groceries. Better still if he takes it on entirely!

CC loves buying food for his dogs and doing the grocery shopping at the supermarket.
But for the wet market weekly purchase, I would go with the maid as early as 6am in the morning……get everything done in 30 minutes and drive back home again. Prefer to do it early dawn cz’ no need to fight for parking lots…… plus there is very little crowd. So things can be all done fast
Where would CC be? Hee…..at home sleeping with Nutty Gal
SSF: Wow, 6am? You’re super efficient like I said on your blog.

for long distance shopping, my husband drives me to the store and reads his books while I do my groceries.
short distance trips, i prefer to be alone so i can take my time.
Belle: Yup, I know what you mean. Take time to do the shopping instead of rushing through especially if you know your husband is waiting and end up forgetting some stuff sometimes.

oohhh…your parents so loving hor…..
I do up the marketing list every week and my man does the marketing. He rather brave the wet market than stay home and look after the rays….thus explains why I don’t have to go marketing…kekeke
seiously, i hate the smell of the wet market too!! kekeke
Jan: No, not that loving. But I think my dad tried to make some efforts, and I think it was considerable during that time. Haha…your man prefer to go marketing than stay with the li’ ones? Haha…he prefer the fishy smell to the sweet smell of his kids. Or maybe they’re too much for him to handle whenever you’re not around. Kekeke…

Hee…. me just want to get my things fast and over with lah
But these days, the folks at the market all know me personally cz’ I seem to be the only few customers at that wee hours.
But hey, the fishes are really very fresh early dawn. The other day, I can even see the prawns jumping up and down
SSF: Me go to market earliest is 9am.

So that’s another plus point about your man?!
wtpg: But still no flowers, no leaves or grass from him leh. On Valentine’s day, can you imagine what joke he told me?
