Viva Woman!

Ta-da.  My new blog.  My own domain.  Viva Woman!

Yesh people.  I have so much blogging mojo that I’ve gone to set up a new blog.  And the best part is that this is hosted on my current dreamhost account which allows me to set up multiple sites!

The site was already up for two weeks or so but was not ready to go live until now because I kept changing my mind about the look and feel.  You’ll noticed that I’ve shelved the initial pink look which I’ve shown during the sneak preview.  Too girlie and the more I looked at it, the more I loathed it.  And I also kept changing my mind about the stories.  So those who have stumbled upon the blog might notice that I’ve even made some edits to some of the articles.

So why another blog?

Well, friends who know me are probably not surprised because they know I like to bum around in the cyberworld.  My online presence dates back to 2000 with my Jpop website by the name of Viva Japan

Thus it’s no wonder my new blog goes by the name Viva Woman!  My positioning for this blog is: Asian women, their lifestyle, interests, fashion, beauty, wellness and everything else in between.  It would work somewhat like a mini ezine with coverage from products, news, trends, commentaries to personalities and will in time to come be monetized with ads and reviews.  Oh yeah, I’m mercenary and now you know.

Hop by if you’re free and if any of you plan to subscribe to my feed, please use the feedburner link provided at the top of Viva Woman! because the others don’t seem to be updating.

And by the way, I’ve closed off comments at that blog because I have no time to manage that at the moment.  So if you have something to say or share, you can still write your comments here, or send me an email.  In fact, those of you who like to review women’s beauty products or fashion trends may even like to consider contributing to Viva Woman! (with a byline).  Let me know k?

So for a start, how about visiting the site and telling me what you think?

  1. Congratulations! I love it! Perfect for ads and reviews. Lol! I clicked on the link you provided to go to your other blog but how come the header looks different from your screen capture here? I prefer this one that you’ve shown in classic black and white to the other. You know, I’m considering moving my blog to my own domain on paid hosting but the task seem so daunting I don’t know where to start! And I’d lose all my page ranking etc. Boo Hoo Hoo. Any tips?

mumsgather: Ah…that’s because I rotate my header.  I’m using the current header cos it suits the current article better.  Anyway, I have a while to build up the traffic and pagerank for the new site.  But thanks for your comments!  As for your intention to migrate, see my reply in your blog.

  2. I like the feel of it. Very chic indeed. But need to beef up your articles a little if it’s going to be the idiot’s guide (sorta) to everything for women out there, say like more tried and tested stuff? Some sites you can check out are http://beautyaddict.blogspot.com/, http://www.fashionisspinach.com/, and http://www.bagsnob.com/.

DR: Thanks for the comments and the links!  I am already reading bagsnob…will check out the other two.  Actually, I’m not planning to make it as a guide of sorts cos there are already so many experts out there.  My idea is to highlight topics or products of interest.  Will see…I definitely need to pump up the content! Want to contribute or not, beauty junkie?

  4. Congrats on the birth of your new ‘baby’! :) Very cool indeed!! So in future i can just hop over there for more fashion/beauty info…I’m also contemplating of starting another blog for the little one, but hor, i dun even have the energy to update my current one…hehe…maybe later.. ;)

Eileen: Thanks!  Just hope I can deliver more quality info there… I think your energy has been sapped by the little one lah…wait a little while, take more tonics and then you’ll find more energy!  If not, your current blog still has room for the li’ one right?

  5. clean layout, easy on the eye. better than pink esp if your articles come with photos. if your readership goes to check this blog faithfully while u peddle it to the advertisers, you’ll have the stats to show for it.

but content wise, you’ll have to manage it so that it reaches out to a wide variety of readers whose interests could be quite diverse. for me, i’ll probably read your main blog here faithfully as i like the snippets of life u talk about.

i will click on viva woman prob once every 2 or 3 days to scroll through to see if there’s anything that catches my eye. for eg, good reviews on products available in sgp, promotions, credit-card tie-ups etc. not big on designer bags and trends coz, there’re just too many websites doing that. almost generic, if u ask me.

    just my 2 cents worth.

impThe main thing is that I want another site that I can experiment cos I definitely want to keep this site generally clean and unobtrusive to my readers.  This will still be my private sanctuary and you’re always welcome here.  As for Viva Woman! I doubt I’ll cover those areas you mentioned.  Products reviews yes, but not the others cos I’m more of a commentary sort.  Will see…anyway, I do expect the traffic over there to be quite different from here.

  6. Congrats on your newest site. It looks great. It’s lots of work to keep up one site, let alone two! Good luck to you.

And like imp, I’ll check it out every so often. But I really come here to read about you and your life. Still, info on fashion couldn’t do me any harm!! One look at me would confirm that to you.

allyNo worries, pop by only when you feel like it.  That’s more of an informative resource, so I don’t expect everyone to be interested in those stuff.  And like imp, you’re always welcome here!

  7. I love you, woman! Well, not literally, but you know what I mean - you are amazing. I hardly think you “bum” around in cyberspace. No, no - you are definitely one of the hardest working ladies I’ve had the fortune to meet over the internet. This sounds like a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work. I have to admit, though, that I’ll still be a regular here rather than over at Viva Woman! as I’m largely a life/family/parenting blog junkie than a beauty junkie.

Oh, and if you diversify out to having topics not beauty-related, like movie reviews, life columns or interviews, I’d be interested in writing for you.

HsinHaha…you’re right in the sense that there’s a lot of time spent in doing things like that.  Actually, I’ve been waking up very early at 5am in the morning just to do a bit more.  But it’s really something I enjoy…so.  No problem about not visiting Viva Woman! cos I do understand that not everyone will find those stuff of interest.  Like I said, the readership profile will be different.

And YES!  I’ll be most happy that you can contribute.  As long as the angle is on woman or women, it could be anything like movies, entertainment and interviews.  But make sure it doesn’t affect your schedule cos the most I can provide is a byline to you and a link back to your blog.  Send me an email to sound me out if you’re keen to write anything, but make this the lowest of your priorities cos you have two kids to look after and that’s a handful!  Having said that, your idea of on interview gave me an idea…Hmmm…something to tackle.

  8. 我想contribute但不够standard!

DR: Haha…you’re too modest!  N’vr mind, just give me pointers whenever you feel like it…

  9. DR, you’re very qualified to contribute! You have great taste, judging by your posts. Go on, give it a shot!

Sesame, as long as you’ll have me and my rambling, I’m willing to try, just for a byline. You have way more publicity than I have anyway, so recognition on your site is better than no recognition. That said, I have zero experience in the stuff I’m proposing to write, so you may still turn me down yet! Nothing ventured, nothing gained!!

Hsin: That’s great!  I have confidence in your writing and your style is better than mine anytime!  Okay, you’ll notice that Viva Woman! is more informative.  So if you angle is on women, and it is either a critique, analysis or commentary, then it’ll work.

For example I was thinking of writing about movies or dramas that depict woman or women of strength and wisdom.  I had in mind the women in Jewel of the Palace and The Legend of Suriyothai, but haven’t got down to it.  So movies, books, can still work as that blog can encompass many topics on women.

  11. Not sure whether it’s my first time here. Too much blog hopping does that to an old lady..he he..Anyway, congrates on your new domain. I have a similar intention to own one but must make sure I can pay for it. So, gotta wait till PP pays me :)

Immoms: I believe it’s your first time here.  Welcome!  Good to learn that you’re also planning on getting your own domain.  I assure you’ll find it more fun to blog that way!
