The boy had a whale of a time at Suntec City yesterday!
The mall set up this mini maze for the kids themed to Halloween and he was so happy running in and out of it. We, the adults had to take turns running with him and it was so tiring!
Apart from his fave cactus and fountain, he also got to see pumpkins. The real big ones! They were on sale at Carrefour and this was also the first time that I saw pumpkins of this size and of course I had to snap some pics. (Yup, I’m a country pumpkin. I know.)
Seriously, I wonder who would buy these huge pumpkins? Do people here eat these? Or do they really leave it at their doorsteps?
I read of a folklore about the Halloween tradition and it appears that pumpkins are left at doorsteps to ward of evil spirits and to welcome the souls of a departed loved one. Even though we don’t celebrate Halloween, it’s interesting to know that there’s a story behind which I can also explain to Gavin next time. If you like to know, go check out the fun facts at the Trivia Blog. They have information on the origin of Halloween plus other interesting stuff.
And no, we didn’t buy the pumpkins in case anyone is wondering. Not even the small ones.

Heh heh! We saw the pumkim @ carrefour too! I almost tempted to get one… the mini one… kinda cute leh… I wanted to wip out the cam to take some pix for memory then… saw the daddy freaking looks… drop off the idea -_-
wtpg: Always use children as undercover…like that easier to take pics! Heehee…

do you think its like our Chinese ghost festival?
Lil’ Joy: It doesn’t really struck me as that cos for ghost fest, we don’t leave lights on to guide them or anything…but in a sense, both deal with departed souls…

Zara is also very facinated by all the huge and miniature pumpkins available in all the better supermarkets in KL. Like you, I wonder who will buy that RM300 huge pumpkin home.
Wow.. the maze looks fun.
ZM: Oh yes, it was so much fun for the kids. He couldn’t stop talking about it back home!
