casserole of my life

Scouting for Sunset

concocted on Tue, 5 Sep 2006 @ 2:34 pm for Family, Places

We went gallivanting at Seletar again over the weekend.  This time, to scout for the elusive famousfortheirbuffalowings Sunset Grill & Pub, which was sooOoo difficult to find.  People kept telling us it’s at the East camp but damn, what they didn’t tell us is that East camp is HUGE.  We had to stop by three different locations to ask for directions!  Super ulu I tell ya.

At first, we thought we found it HERE.

Erm, it’s supposed to be rustic not DILAPIDATED right?

Wow, got to take a plane eh?  It’s that FAR?

Oh no, it’s just a plane belonging to the Flying Club lah.

Then we saw this and thought this was IT.

Er, apparently it was not but we were told we were VERY close.

We had to turn a little corner, parked at a little carpark and walked a little bit more.

TA-DA…FINALLY!

Sunset grill & pub

We liked what we saw immediately.  The interior setting is kind of quaint and the view outside is very rustic, kampong-like.  We could even smell the trees, the plants, the grasses and view planes taking off from afar.   Look, they even have a little kiddie play area and a scarecrow to boot!

Ah, the FOOD…

Heheh.  I said this is a scouting trip right?  It was way too early for eats lah.  We were there before noon but the pub does not open till 4pm.

Next time.  I promise.

  2. That’s some scouting trip but yah, so ulu! Think more ulu than my Teluk Tempoyak.

BTW, you know your Seletar post was tomorrowed?

DR: Yup, I realised when I saw the sudden surge in traffic last week.  Actually this is the 2nd time they’ve tomorrowed my entry.  I’m guessing this one was probably due to my trackback to Ping cos I didn’t see much “interesting” value to it.  But still, I was quite happy that at least someone living abroad found it useful and is even thinking of staying at that ulu resort when she comes next time.

  3. Yah the place looks ulu, if u dun drive is abit diff to go there rite?

Ashes: Ya, not possible.  Unless you know the direction, I believe most cabbies probably also don’t know how to get there.

  4. wow, what an adventure! u hv almost found every nook & cranny in singapore already LOL

btw sesame, wanna ask u something. where do u get those graphics & clip-art for your banners/headers? i think the graphics u used are very nice. i’ve been thinking for the longest time to do up a new banner but i just cannot find the inspiration :( u seem to piece everything together so nicely!

Evan: Funny you ask!  Cos I was staring at your masthead this morning and thinking that it’s so nicely done. Haha…And your blog gives off a very pleasant vibe with the combination of nice music and  pictures.  Looks like we both are into blog aesthetics huh?

Most of the graphics on my headers are self-drawn in Adobe Illustrator CS.  Some are picked out from the symbol folder within Illustrator (something like their clipart) and then modified.  Like the mask you see on this particular one.  I tend to keep a lookout for nice graphics to get ideas.  And I guess it’s easier for me to coordinate them because I keep my background white.

  5. cheh.. no food pix ah??

At least you found the place.. so this w/end going to try it out?? Btw, is it very far from town this ‘ulu’ place?

ZM: It’s not that far, considering how Singapore is so small.  But it’s considered remote.

  6. the scarecrow is pretty creepy! Did you go with Gavin? Or just hubby?

ErikaIt was the three of us.  If you look carefully at one of the pix, you can catch the reflection of the father and son.
