I ALMOST WENT BERSERK THINKING THAT MY BLOG WAS GONE FOR GOOD.
Heh. THAT was how I expected myself to react when I thought my account was being compromised yesterday because I was unable to access both my site and my ftp account for most part of the day.
Surprisingly however, I was very collected. In fact, I didn’t even feel upset at the prospect of losing this blog. I tossed with a few options in my mind then:
- Get my account restored (if possible)
- Start a new blog (er, take time maybe not)
- Stop blogging (easiest)
I am not as emotionally attached to my blog as I thought I am. Which is good. I’m glad I’m truly able to treat my blog purely for creative purposes and understand that even if it’s lost for good, I’ll still be fine.
Anyway, my momentarily concern was allayed when my host provider came back to inform me that the file server that hosts my data had a hardware failure and was being fixed. Of course I was glad to hear that but there has since been more bad news.
The filer is back online after having lost both of it’s spare disks. At this point all of the shelves, cables, and associated hardware has been replaced and yet this filer is still killing disks. We’re doing everything we can to avoid data loss but backing up your email and site data is strongly encouraged. There will be more information to follow as it becomes available.
This is really great. This is what I call SUPER OUTAGE-ous!

I dun think you will stop blogging.

Strangely enough, whenever our blog is down we thought, it was hacked. I had similar experience.

If you are ever gg to stop blogging, remember to give ample notice and also before disappearing into the sea of anonymity, must at least meet up with some of us!!!

I think I’ll have all my hair pulled out..
For those that I’d printed a copy of the post out (to let Zara read in future), I’m fine. For those I’d not and if I’d lost my post forever, I’ll .. I’ll… yikes.. don’t know what I’ll do.
So in lay man terms what does it mean? You are going to loose anything or not?

Psst.. can you share the password with me on your ranting post? Only if it’s ok. You can send it to me to zarasmama@gmail.com

Call me emotional, but I think I will get pretty upset if those regular bloggers whose blogs I read disappear suddenly. It’s like all of a sudden, the good friends whom I have been sharing my thoughts with have vanished into the thin air.
Yup, Sesame, at least give us ample notice as Rat said, and meet up if you really are giving up blogging,ok?
Think I am quite attached to all my regular bloggers by now…and please don’t disappear just like that, okie? To all my bloggers…..

hey sesame, i think its a good thing. i mean, it might b a good thing you’re not so “attached” to your blog. wish i can do the same too. in fact new year resolution #1 is not to stick around the computer too much. i’ve been so reliant on the pc that i totally cant function without it. i hope u r not like me :p

I think most people would be upset or terrified over the loss of the blog, not so much because of the attachment to blogging, but the loss of “life’s moments” one has captured and “preserved” on his/her blog.
Previously I was conscientiously backing up files, but not anymore. But yes, I should start again.

Don’t stop blogging ok? We already missed a diva, so don’t go off too, ok?

Hah?! You want to stop blogging??! You wont miss us meh??! :p
But one thing for sure, you write very well and your blog is very interesting. It’s really a waste if u really have stop…
I will feel sad if one day my site just disappear like that too, as my site has very sedimental value to me. It’s a diary recording an important stage of my life, ie my motherhood. I cant believe myself can be so consistant this time as compare to my younger days when im trying to keep an manual diary.
Now i even make it an monthly habit to save my blog in pdf format

Hello friends,
No, no. I’m not going to stop. Please don’t be mistaken. The thought only crossed my mind because I thought my blog was brought down deliberately.
Recently, I read that numerous WP blogs got hacked due to security issue and I thought mine was hit cos of the server vulnerability. Even though I have a backup, but I’m not a techie so I don’t really know how to restore my site say if it was hacked.
If someone took it down deliberately, then I may just leave things as it is cos it’s very tiring to try to put everything back. I’ll be sad for sure, but I can live without it. Surprisingly, I don’t seem to attach a lot of sentiments to what I’ve written. Maybe because I see my blog just for creative purposes and not so much as preserving my moments? Er, I think I’m just a bit 反常 lately. For example, I’m not even angry with my host provider for creating this shite.
But of course, now it’s not out, I’ll definitely continue. Heheh. Ashes understand me best. If ever one day I want to stop, I’ll definitely give ample notice one.
Actually like sunshinesunflower, I’m more attached to blogs I read and I’ll probably feel more withdrawal symptoms if any one of them disappear. It’s almost like losing a friend…
ZM: It means still not stable. Any time can crash! Btw, check your email.
Evan: I cannot live without the PC and the Internet!
wtpg: You save in PDF format? Wow!

Like you, I’m not that attached to my blog. I have killed my blog before and brought it back to life some time later. I think I’d feel sore about the loss of all that work, but like you, I’d probably have contemplated stopping, maybe not for good, but just for a while.
That said, this does serve as a reminder. I used to back up religiously, but I haven’t done so in ages. Note to self: BACK UP!
