I was very much into faux jewelry in my 20s. Then over the years, I gradually transited to the real thing, and gave the fakes a miss altogether.
It was only last year when I found out that Ashes is making her own line of Krystallinos that I was interested in putting on some of her cute trinkets. Even then, I confined myself to earrings, rings, bracelets and anklets. No necklace.
Last Saturday however, I felt a sudden urge to accessorise my bare neck after meeting with my best friend. My friend, who is into making necklaces with gemstones and beads was telling me about her designs and her plans to sell them online. Even though I didn’t get to see her designs, I was inspired to buy something off the shelf immediately.
So I dropped by one of the nearest department stores and picked up something which was simple, ethnic looking and agreed with my then outfit, along with a pair of matching earrings and a bracelet. I put them on immediately after paying and happily toddle home in them. Heheh. That’s what I call INSTANT GRATIFICATION!
Seriously, I’m not even sure if I will put them on again. Already, I don’t quite like the bracelet now. But it didn’t cost me much so I’m not too concerned. I know I’m fickle and that’s why I shouldn’t spend hundreds on fake jewelry. For that amount, please give me the real thing. Although admittably, faux baubles are more colourful and funkier.
In fact, I was just ogling at some delicious looking candy-like necklaces online. Since I’m so in the mood for necklaces now, I might just commission my friend to make me some, hopefully at a much more affordable price.

I don’t usually wear necklaces because they shorten my neck, and emphasize my square jaw too much. It’s bare neck for me or a thin white-gold chain.

I think accessories help to jazz up an otherwise simple outfit of solids. Still I would stick to simple ear studs but wear a dressier necklace sometimes. But my main accessory would always be my watches. I have a soft spot for watches with colourful straps and big interesting faces.

I love necklaces! :)I always try to keep my other accessories (eg, bracelets or earrings) simple but i would normally go for eye catching necklaces or chokers…i’m simply hopelessly in love with them..

Hmm .. chokers are sexy. Hehe … too bad not many people wear them … or should I say like to wear them.

The necklace is nice.. not sure about the bracelet..
I’m into either the real thing (which I seldom buy b’cos of the price), or crystal jewelry..

Nice, Sesame, nice. I’m into necklaces and long chains lately, quite hiao lor! But since I’m fairly big framed, I go for quite chunky stuff. I crazy over pearlised stuff, not necessary the actual pearls though. I life pearlised flowers a lot. Show you some other day.

The necklace looks really cool on you… too bad I can’t wear those.. I look weird wearing those..

ee: I usually wear a thin white gold chain for working too. Either with my crystal or purple gold pendant.
DR: Watches? That’s cool. It’s been such a long time since I bought a watch. I used to be like you when I was younger. Use watches as conversational piece.
Now, too lazy.
Eileen: You have weakness for necklaces and chokers? That’s interesting. I used to like necklaces when I was younger. I bought so many but threw most of them away. Now a bit regret. But I’ve always had a weakness for bracelets, real or fakes.
Loong: Chokers are *choke choke* uncomfortable lah…
ZM: Say if I have to spend over hundreds to accessorise myself, I’ll rather go for the real stuff. My budget for fakes is very low.
MS: You do? Like Eileen…must show us your collection.
Erika: Not your style perhaps…or perhaps like EE? Well, most important is to wear what suits you and make you comfortable.

The only thing I wear now is my wedding band! Ever since the kids were born, have taken all accessories off and never put any back one, although I used to loved to decorate myself with these lovely accessories but now, with the kids, I simply don’t have the and can’t be borthered anymore……perhaps when the kids are much older, I can start to become alittle more vain again but not now lor…..haiz

Jan: Yup, with kids it can be hard. My boy also likes to pull my necklace and earrings. Chunky rings that I like are also difficult to put on especially if I need to carry him. But like you say, you should be able to be vain again when they’re both slightly older.
