I was surfing the web for news on Takuya Kimura and came across this *hehe* rather amorous report from Mainichi Daily News.

AnAn, one of Japan’s leading women’s magazine on fashion and lifestyle sold about 500,000 of its May 31 edition because it was bundled with a porno flick “Dirty DVD for Girls.”  That was 200,000 more than their usual monthly sales!

HELLO?  Ladies going for porno flicks openly in an Asian society?  Isn’t that so interesting?

With pornography so prevalent in Japan and sexually explicit materials abundantly available in many Japanese grocery stores and vending machines, this really shouldn’t come as any surprise.  But I personally find it hard to imagine legion of fair and gentle Japanese maidens rushing out in frenzy to eagerly snap up a magazine because of the porno flick.  It speaks volumes of the changes in gender perception and smacks of so much sexual liberation that we ladies from some of the other parts of Asia will probably never get to experience this lifetime.  I. AM. ENVIOUS.

“Dirty DVD for Girls” comes in two parts, each of which is about 15 minutes long. Apparently, it’s softporn and there are no close-up scenes of genital fondling or ejaculation.  It’s the sort which focuses more on the looks of the men appearing in the films and the atmosphere of the places where the sex is happening.  The synopsis:

Picture the scene… A woman wearing a floral micro miniskirt and white jacket enters a room with her boyfriend. He gently sits her down on a chair and approaches her from behind. He raises her arms and wraps a blindfold around her. She seems worried as he slides a hand into her underwear. Later, she stands naked, facing a window offering a glorious nighttime skyline view as he approaches her from behind and slowly penetrates…

According to the Mainichi report, a 41-year-old Japanese housewife agrees that women like dirty DVDs and said it’d be really nice if rental video stores had sections for adult movies targeting women.

Hmmm…Suppose one of our leading female magazines decides on such a sex-themed marketing blitz, would our women rush out to buy something like that openly, assuming it’s legal?   Or would they find it totally vile and offensive?

Well, I don’t know about them.  But as someone who has in the past, occasionally enjoyed a dose of cinematic softporn, I would buy.  Disgusting?  Oh for goodness sake,  I never claimed to be virtuous did I?

  1. I don’t mind watching dirty DVD if they are shown on TV for free but quite frankly, I am not sure if I’m willing to pay for it.. haha. I wonder if women prefer to watch female or male.. mmm

  2. I think women would probably prefer soft porn rather than hard porn, you know those that leave very little to the imagination, just lots of hard banging and close-up views are so tasteless. What say you? As with regards your question, I think they would perhaps buy them as well, though some would pretend that its vile and offensive. Hahaha!

  3. Yeah, soft porn is alright, as long as it’s not animal porn. I still can’t get over the fact that some people do it with horses and dogs. Yikes!

That aside, I suppose many would buy (I would be one of them) but none would openly admit that they watch or worse, put it down when they secretly enjoy it!

  4. Yup, i think there’s nothing wrong in watching softporn if there is one. I seconded DR’s comments - maybe some would even send their men or maids to buy for them…hahaha… :P

  5. WoW! Reading the synopsis make my heart throb :p
Well, we are adults, I dont find watching porn any vile or offensive or disgusting. Once a while the hubby does get “circulation” from frens and we watch within the four walls. I am open but I find it weird to initiate a conversation on sex even with frens unless they started it then I will contribute, rationally.

So walking into the store to get an xxx dvd will be a big challenge for me but will be a thrill if I tell the hubby seductively: Sweetie… I heard the store has NICE XXX-rated dvd… you want *smooching lip* some… tonight?

And… Yah, I only thrill on humanity. Animals, gay, les and mass… make me puke! Yuks! Phew phew phew :0..

  6. Male / female brains are wired differently, hence they respond to different sexual stimuli. For me, if you can tell by the sales of pornography are more visually stimulated while women prefer feeling (imagination). I guess that is why they usually close their eyes when they kiss? Hehe … IMHO.

  7. I reckon if it were in Singapore, women would get others to buy it for them. And yes, there will be many that would secretly enjoy them, but few would admit publicly. In fact, there would be public outcry and probably even a CNA news piece or forum about it. It would be analyzed to death and with no conclusion.

I’d buy it, that’s for sure. Why ever not?

  8. Hehe…I think bloggers tend to be more open-minded heh? We’re humans right? But it’s true what some of you have said. Many would watch secretly but not openly admit it.

Softporn is really quite nice especially with a good looking cast. I especially like those with some well known faces.

  9. okay, I’m prudish. I will not buy it, and don’t watch it even if it’s for free. But yes, sex be it soft, hard or subtle, definitely sells.
