casserole of my life

Rekindling at Tanjong Pagar

concocted on Mon, 19 Jun 2006 @ 10:08 am for Eats, Musings, Places

Like partners in crime, we sneaked out and went gallivanting around town yesterday without the boy. After shopping a bit in Novena Square and Suntec, we came back to our usual tea place at Tanjong Pagar for some snacks.

This place serves many types of Chinese tea and we used to come here frequently to brew and drink tea when we had more time. This is because the whole works of appreciating Chinese tea from boiling water, rinsing the tea pot, rinsing the tea leaves, to drinking the tea take a bit of time. However, the entire process is very interesting and relaxing.

These days, we come here mostly for their refreshing bubble tea and snacks. They serve quite a variety of dishes and their quality is well worth the money spent. So even though there is a nosey-parker who is almost like a furniture in the shop, we don’t mind this place.

Except for a low EQ, this nosey-parker is actually quite harmless. She likes to go around chatting with the customers and with us, she will always ask very personal questions and volunteer all sorts of advices towards our lifestyle. Yesterday, she left us more or less alone because there was another couple whom she kept herself busy with. *WHEW*

After our tea, we walked along this stretch, a place we used to hang out quite a bit before Gavin was born. Apart from the numerous eateries, restaurants and pubs, there are also quite a handful of bridal shops and massage palours here.

And this is the farcade of The Fifties, a karaoke lounge which brought back a lot of fond memories for us.

Hmmmm…we seem to be revisiting some of our old favourite haunts together these days. Maybe to rekindle some lost romance? WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA….

  1. This is a nice part of town… hmmm..
Sneaking out on Gavin? Actually if he’s ok, you can do this more often. Zara would probably cling on to my leg if I said I was going some where w/out her. :(

  2. Tanjong Pagar area indeed carrys an air of nostalgia. I sure hope it will stay this way for a long time and not be torn away for some condo/office block.

This teahouse looks like a good spot to chill out.

Next time u visit this teahouse, you may wish to tell this tea attendant politely that you wish to be left alone. She should get the hint. No need to feed the kapok’s mind. ;)

  7. You painted a very serene picture of Tanjong Pagar. I suppose both of you must have dated there after work back then?

  8. Your day sounds lovely– nosey parker or not.

I love how you describe what’s going on and then have the pretty-edge photos to go with.

    Very restful.

  10. Zara Mama: Sometimes, he’s reluctant to let us go too so we have to sneak out. We usually do these in the afternoons when he’s napping.  Zara won’t let you go at all?  Hehe, must train her…

Dreamy Princess: I cannot politely tell pple off because when I tell pple off, my facial expression gives it away.  So I usually let my husband handle her while I ignore and eat my food.  Anyway, some days we’ll avoid this place altogether if we’re not in the mood for any nosey-parkers.

Eileen: I can just imagine Damien coming with his loads for questions for you and your hubby why you are all going out without him.

wtpgrr: You used to work around there? That’s nice cos you got access to a lot of nice food…

Mama Bok: Yup, must shake off the little one sometimes for a bit of “we time”.

Jan: Yeah, going somewhere relaxing does open up the mind and the communication line…

DR: Kind of. We used to hang out almost every weekend at TP from our dating days until Gavin was born.  Mostly at the teahouse or one of the eateries.

ally: Thanks!  Glad you like it.

BBM: It’s kind of nostalgic and brings back fond memories.  I wished  I was young all over again.
