Gavin used to gulp down all his medicine without problems. Well, that is until last week.
These two must really taste awful because he calls them “dirty medicine.” No way could we get him to take them. It was such a challenge especially because one of them is an antibiotic he has to complete. We resorted to all sorts of tricks and threats but nothing worked. He would cry so hard till he vomitted all his food and milk. So in exasperation, I called the clinic and asked if I could stop giving him the antibiotic.
The good thing that came out of this medi-drama is that we now have another weapon to hold against him, on top of the rectangle bear. If he craps up, all we need to say is “later we’ll give you dirty medicine” and he’ll be angelically cooperative again.
Ha! I suppose all medication work wonders. It’s just a matter of being able to administer them the right way. ![]()

Hehehe!! correct!!

I’m glad I’m past that stage. I know how it can be sometimes hard to administer medicine to kids. I find that my kids don’t like anything that’s grape flavour because they say “it” tastes like medicine.

My mom used to crush the pills into powder, mix with cod liver oil to sweeten it and then reward me with the blueberry pastilles or smarties after downing the vile stuff. This was after she caught me redhanded flinging the pills out of the window when she turned her back on her.

From the picture, i think it’s the same anti-biotic Damien had recently. He called it the ‘yucky medicine’. luckily he managed to finished it after much ‘coaxing’ from his favourite soft toy - pooh bear…he still loves taking medicine, though not as ‘excited’ as before..hehe..:P

“Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down, the medicine go down, the medicine go down..”
I think Mary Poppins thought it right. Sweet incentives help. But seriously, the medicine looks ‘powderful’ and yucky! From Changi Hospital, right?

Add honey with bitter medicine should do the trick. Yes, I don’t like administering medicine to my kids too.

Hub’s really against people stopping the antibiotic halfway through. He’ll nag and nag and nag and nag abt it…
Perhaps you can try what Mothersuperior and Earthember suggested? Adding honey? Though must ask doctor first.. just in case the medicine doesn’t react well with honey..

I used to mix meds with applesauce, juice, jello, even ice cream. It’s so hard when they won’t take it. I hope he’s feeling better.

just like Rayner, he used to be able to down anykind of medication, until recently, everytime I try to give him meidicine, he would cover his mouth and tells me, no good, if i eat, i will sure vomit, my stomach no good…but if I keep nagging and nagging at him, he will eventually give in and downs the medicine with a sour look on his face…..haiz…..but I hope Gavin’s feeling much much better after taking his medicine…..

Thanks everyone for your inputs. I’ve tried it with sweets and it worked for a short while. He’s still refusing to eat it and the doc did say it’s alright since he’s not running a fever.
Anyway, he will also refuse the honey because he will only drink honey water and will not take the honey by itself. The colour of the antibiotic is also a problem. It’s obviously different from the others that I can’t bluff him at all.
