casserole of my life

Smelly satay fish

concocted on Wed, 19 Apr 2006 @ 7:15 am for Eats

Do you remember eating this when you were young?  Satay fish! I used to eat this when I was younger, in my primary school days.  Definitely junk food but I love the taste! Smelly yet delicious.  Sometimes I even had bad tummy aches after eating them.  But still, I love it!  Bought 100 grams yesterday and finished all in 10 minutes.  And afterwards, I had FISHY smelling fingers and mouth for a good half of the day!

  2. Hee… I love this too! Remember them packaged in sticks. This one, I’m glad, did not tempt me as much as the oyster omelette. :D

  7. Zara’s Mama, you don’t like this?  What a waste.  But I suppose the smell can be a turn off for some pple.

Eileen: This one I bought tasted the same except without the sticks. But I’ve come across some with sticks from Thailand, but I don’t dare to buy those. Afraid of getting diahorrea!

Mama Bok: You knitted with the sticks?  Whoa!  What did you knit then?  Then those stuff you knitted got the satay fish smell?  Hahaha…

  8. I loved these!!! I remember buying them from the mama store for 5 cents a stick. The mama would have a bunch of them kept in a plastic bag. I didn’t know you could still get these things.

  9. Am I the only one here who go “huh?” Satay fish? It’s packaged food? How come the color when you took it out looks different from those in the packet? Sweet or salty? Where did u get it from? *so many questions*..

  10. Fuzzoo: You can get these from Umeya nowadays. 100grams for $3.50. Taste is similar. No sticks though. But once I did have a tummy ache eating them. But that didn’t stop me.

Erika: You find these in some parts of South East Asia. I don’t know how it’s made but it’s junk food. The taste is slightly salty, can’t really describe. A bit like cuttlefish but taste better. The colour is different probably cos of the lighting.

  11. Wow … so long ago. I think the shop I got them from used to make so much. They stick like one or two on a stick and sell by stick instead.
