Besides my face, my hair is the other part above my shoulder which I fuss quite a bit. Geez, how can I ignore it? It is among the first things people notice about me, unless of course they can detach my face from my hair.
Which explains why I am particular about the brand of shampoo I use, why I got myself a salon type hairdryer and why I must always carry a comb wherever I go. But the most important has to be that I must have a good hairstylist. While I am no celebrity who goes to David Gan, I am still VERY particular about who touches my head and cuts my hair.
I have known my hairstylist, Hensley, since I was a teen working as a temp in Peter & Guys hairstyling training school. But it wasn’t until about 12 years ago that I went to him for my first haircut and have since been faithfully following him to the various salons he has worked in.
Being friends means Hensley knows me well enough not to give me some offbeat haircut. He always gives me a trendy cut that flatters my face shape, and something manageable which I can style effortlessly. He is able to work more volume into my limp hair and is ever ready to dispense the right advice when it comes to my hair needs. I will always remember the time he threw a tantrum because I had asked him for a perm. “Look, I’m your friend. So I’m telling you a perm is not suitable for you. If you insist on it, be prepared for the consequences.” He was really upset then. Anyway, I did do the perm against his wishes and subsequently lived to regret it.
Maybe that’s why a lot of celebrities are buddies with their hairstylists. For example, when Jennifer Aniston split from her husband, Brad Pitt, she reportedly ran straight to Chris McMillan, her hairstylist, to cry on his shoulder.
Well I wouldn’t exactly go to Hensley if I was emotionally upset but I will definitely go to him if I want to feel positive about myself via a nice haircut or a highlight.
Come to think about it, Hensley is almost someone I cannot live without. He may not be my confidante or best friend but he definitely has the power to make me look and feel good.

Gosh! Thot I was one freak who stick to a hair stylist for more than a decade. Hahahaaa.. Coincidently, mine came from Peter and Guys too!

It’s always good to stick to a hairstylist who knows what style suits you, and what style you wouldn’t try (even if it suits you).
I’d been going to the same hairstylist too for a while.. Sometimes I thought I’ll try something new, and go for a haircut at another plc and later regret..
My hubby and I bought go to the same one, and now she’s move on to a more upmarket salon, and charging 40% more, we’re still wondering if we should continue to go to her.

I’ve been keeping my long hair for as long as i remember, how boring is that huh? ;p I only visit the salon when the hair needs a trim.

Hee… I never let another cut my hair too, always faithfully returning home to my hairstylist of 10 years. Come to think of it, he has seen me through my best and worst days.

KY & DR: We’re all freaks! As long as we’re happy.
Zara’s Mama: I went to my husband’s hairstylist for a while but didn’t quite like her cut. Somehow I feel that male hairstylists are better with women’s hair while men should have their hair cut by women hairstylist.
Eileen & Angelia: Keep your hair long as long as it suits you. I had longer hair when I was younger but have cut it short over the years. Easier to maintain and upkeep.
Diva: Maybe time to switch hairstylist?

I must be the odd one out here. I used to use someone regularly when I lived in Singapore, but since we’ve moved, I’ve given up sticking to him just because I had short hair and needed a trim too often to wait till we went home. In the past few years, I’ve wandered from hairstylist to hairstylist and haven’t found a single one I like. Just as well - I keep moving anyway!
