NTUC

Warning!  Auntie posting ahead!

I don’t know why I bother to shop at Cold Storage when the stuff are obviously more expensive.  See the portobello mushrooms?  It’s going for $3.50 at NTUC while the same packet is going for around $5 at Cold Storage when I checked yesterday.  Then there are these blueberries which are going for a preposterous $7.50 at Cold Storage but only $3.90 at NTUC today.  So even though I don’t fancy fresh blueberries that much, I couldn’t resist stocking up.

Maybe the plastic container is of inferior quality.  I don’t know leh because I cannot tell.

  2. NTUC = government subsidized..?? no..??
Cold storage = ang moh brand..?? no..??

  3. Zara’s Mama: Cheap right? I was surprised too.

Mama Bok: As far as I know, NTUC is open to the public. Only their members or the older folks get a special price or rebate I think. The difference in pricing is a matter of the branding and the perception that Cold Storage carries better quality products and yes, targetted at ang moh customers too. Of course it carries some products that aren’t available at NTUC too. So more like NTUC = for the poorer & Cold Storage = for the richer.  Personally, I rather shop as a poor rather than feel like a sucker to get the same product at a higher price.

  5. Hahhaaa, you not only post bargains, but price comparison too. Good job!

  6. Hehehehe…. I do price comparisons too, but I just don’t write posts about them for fear I am accused of being auntie. *grin* but yeah, I still don’t get why some supermarket scan charge an arm and a leg and can be so crowded when the regular, run-of-the-mill supermarkets charge much less for what seems to be the same thing. One thing though - I will pay for eggs. There have been horror stories of fake eggs coming from China…

  7. I only shop at CS when I am DESPERATE. The milkpowder is S$1 more expensive at CS compared to NTUC, but the CS has one store across the street from my place whereas I have to drive 15min to get to the nearest NTUC. :(

  8. Eileen: Reverse role? Lucky you!
    KY: Hehe…only this time hor.
Hsin: I would too if I were you. Better pay more from trustworthy source.
Diva: I have a choice of both supermarkets nearby so that’s a blessing. But funny these days I find a lot of things I used to only find available at CS at the NTUC too. At a lower cost too.
