Which cafe calls itself the epitome of urban chic and yet is completely mucked up in their service? Well, this cafe that goes by the name White Tangerine at Paya Lebar Community Centre. The same cafe that was recommended by the Makan King food show on Channel U last Thursday.
I’m not going to waste my time dedicating an entry just to bitch about their uber abominable service. All I will say is that we wasted our petrol, time and effort travelling to this lousy place and yet I was deprived of my chocolate fondue, honey baked wings and root beer after waiting for 40 minutes. All this crap after I pestered my husband for days and finally made a trip down yesterday when the boy was napping. Fortunately, daddy Totoro was in a good mood and did not grouch much.
In the end, we headed back to the nearby Hong Kong Cafe and was met with efficient service and fairly decent food. Never mind there was no chocolate fondue. The Lychee fruit tea that I ordered was so refreshingly wondrous! So that really helped to extinguish my earlier rage.
Die die I’m going to have my chocolate fondue one of these days. But it won’t be at that White Tangerine cafe for sure.

that’s the problem with restaurants in s’pore..the service usually sucks..and to think that we need to pay for service charges!
Swiss Culture at Suntec serves pretty good chocolate fondue. Oh..and you should try the sunday buffet brunch at Paulaner Brauhaus too. There’s chococate fondue in the desert section..the chocolate’s fab there! And a kiddo area for the young ones to play at too!

What actually happened?
I think for M’sia, those restaurants are having better service unless they are super popular and wouldn’t mind offending their customers with lousy service. Normally restaurants like this have very good food and they know you’ll come back even when their service sucks!

Seems like we had our experiences with bad customer service over the wkend, albeit separately.

Zara’s Mama: This place is new. They’ve been generating quite a bit of publicity themselves yet cannot cope with the outcome.
I wanted to try because I saw the programme and the food looks kind of tasty and it’s near my mum’s place. The waiter and waitress seem very inexperienced and the situation was choatic because they took my order but somehow just forgot because they were struggling with the others. The waiter mentioned that they needed half an hour to serve us the chocolate fondue but after 40 minutes, they didn’t even served us our drink, and not even when I confronted them! In the end, we just cancelled our order and walked off. But not before I told them to stop promoting themselves if they cannot cope.

Dear Sesame,
Read this comments recently. The White Tangerine Cafe had a change of management this month. I’m a friend of the new team, you may want to check them out. No service charge and no GST, and you probably don’t have to wait 1/2 hr for your fondue.
Dexter
Hi Dexter: Thanks for letting me know. Perhaps I will try it again when I can find the time. And if they’re better, I might post a review here.
