casserole of my life

Imaginative car play

concocted on Fri, 24 Feb 2006 @ 7:17 am for Parenting

CarIf you see a toy car and a USB cable in this picture, you’re seeing things! This is a racing car with a petrol pump nozzle.

Yes it is! According to Gavin.

Lately he has been intrigued with the whole works of petrol filling and has been mimicking that process in his play. “How much petrol would you like sir?” I’ll start by asking. “Full tanks ah!” is what he’ll always reply. Then, we’ll go through the petrol filling motion using my finger. After which, he’ll pay and off he vrooms.

So imagined my surprise when he came to my desk last week and pulled my USB cable to place it at his car. “Pump petrol kiosk,” he said. What he really meant to say of course was “pump petrol”. Haha…what did I know? My USB cable has become a fuel pump nozzle, thanks to his imaginative mind!

I am so amused. Obviously he is of the age where make-believe and other imaginative activities begin to occupy an important place in his mental world. Hmmmmm. I wonder what he’ll imagine next. Whatever it is, it has to be related to his cars. In fact I vaguely suspect he is trying to convert part of our house into carpark lots. Why? Because he has been placing his cars, big and small at certain strategic corners. He’ll even bother to change the cars once every few hours!

Wait till he learns about the ERP system. I’ll like to see which object in the house becomes a gantry then.

  3. Would people with same birthday has some common traits? Eu also loves playing cars, and yes he also has open carpark concept, and have some of his favorites lined up side by side, or bumper to pumper. The very 1st imaginative thing he did was going through hump, by having a fold of the bedsheet on the bed, and he goes ” gong-gong, gong-gong”. :)

Damien loves cars too, hubby bought him a set of cars recently, and he has been mimicking the sound of the reverse sensor “pee pee, pee pee” and move his car slowly into the “carpark”… hahaha..

  5. Haha.. so cute!!
For all you know, he may be the one who design cars powered by PC power using USB cable. :P

It’s nice to see them at play actually, to see how creative they are.. and see how we get amused. Haha.

  6. Ah, seems that all the boys love cars!

KY: I sure like the way Eu plays! Very imaginative using the bedsheet and making the sound. Hey, I’m sure they do have common traits being of the same Capricorn sign

Eileen: Damien also very cute and even know how to reserve park somemore.

DR: He’s very keen on racing programs and games. Not sure if it’ll be one of his ambition in future.

MamaBok & Zara’s Mama: I wonder if the girls will play cars or prefer to play cookery (jia jia jiu).

  8. That’s very imaginative of Gavin! This reminds me of my son before he had his computer, he would use things around the house to construct a little monitor and keyboard for himself.

  9. It’s this imagination in your little boy that you want to keep going. Kids really find the niftiest ways to make their own version of the adult world. This is why the big cardboard box is still considered the Number One toy for toddlers!
