casserole of my life

Howl’s Moving Castle

I finally got the DVD of Howl’s moving castle. This is about the only show I saw on the big screen this year that was memorable.

The movie is adapted based on Castle In The Air by Diana Wynne Jones. It follows the story of young Sophie Hatter, a bookworm, the eldest of three daughters, a girl doomed to an uninteresting life as a hat maker. Sophie resigns herself to her boring fate, but fate has other plans for her. Cursed by the Witch of the Waste with the body of a 90-year-old woman, she finds her way to the moving castle inhabited by the wizard Howl, said by all to eat the souls of young girls. Hayao Miyazaki really did a wondrous animation of the story. It is simply spellbinding and mesmerising! I am so deeply in love with Howl! And of course it helped that the Japanese voice for Howl is Takuya Kimura’s. In fact, when watching the movie, I actually felt like Howl is Takuya and Takuya is Howl. He is so dashing and so vain! I particularly like the scene where Howl was weeping his heart out because his hair colour turned out awry and he felt life is meaningless if he cannot be beautiful. Uber drama! The fat, asthmatic dog Heen and Calcifer the fire demon are also very interesting creatures which provided many moments of laughters! Having seen most of Hayao Miyazaki’s movies, I have to say that this has to be one of his best and probably the only one so far with a romantic theme. I tell you that man is awesome and I always look forward to his movies! They are just masterpieces: the quality of his animations is astounding and the music used in his movies is always first-class!
