It’s been so long since I’ve come into contact with these bet tickets again. Before Gavin was born, I was actively into football betting offered by the Singapore Pools. It actually started with World Cup in 2002 when I won about $500 out of a mistaken bet I had placed on the handicaps. So, thrilled by the win, I continued betting on the EPL, UEFA and S-League games later.
I remember spending a fair bit of my time studying the odds and analysing the various teams. And because we didn’t subscribe to cable then, I would just sit in front of my computer monitoring the live scores on most weekends. I continued to make a bit more money from the EPL and UEFA, but eventually lost most of it to S-League. Very kelong one, some soccer matches.
Anyway, when Gavin arrived, I could hardly afford any time to anything and quickly forgot all about football. I hadn’t realised that the World Cup 2006 qualifiying rounds are on until Zu mentioned to me yesterday. I was even more surprised he had placed bets because I’m the gambler in our household. So these are actually his winning tickets. But the good news is, the winnings are now mine! Muahahaha!!!
Meaning of kelong: colloquial term used to describe any form of cheating or corruption in any competition.
