For lashes & cuticles

concocted on Tue, 20 Sep 2005 @ 5:42 am for Femilicious

I’m really envious of Gavin’s long eye lashes. He definitely didn’t inherit them from me because mine are naturally short. But lately, they’ve grown longer! Yes, they have! Thanks to Mavala’s Eye-Lite Double Lash which I bought from Sasa sometime ago. Just two weeks after applying nightly, my eye lashes actually grew visibily longer! REALLY! And the bottle only cost me $16. I know there are other brands which yield better results… but at three times this price!  So this is still a good deal for me and the results are guaranteed. Just recommended this to Godma and hope she can start blinking more men her way. ;)

I like Mavala’s products. Another favourite of mine is its Mavapen for cuticle grooming. Just apply it around your cuticles and your nails will look well manicured, even if they’re not. Quite cool. I bought it about two years ago for slightly over $10 and believe it or not, I’m still using the same pen.

Crabs & candles

concocted on Mon, 19 Sep 2005 @ 1:21 am for Eats

Gavin had quite a lot of company yesterday. In the morning, he had fun at my mum’s place impressing his third uncle and auntie whom he rarely sees except during special festivals. The boys next door, Brendon and Brian, also invited him to join their water play. Then his godma came by in the evening to entertain him. And to top it off, we brought him to Ponggol Park where he saw other kids carrying lanterns and playing with sparklers. Boy, that place was lighted with candles everywhere, even in the pond. Really happening.

So it was quite a busy but satisfying day, especially meal-wise. Zu cooked pepper crabs and shark’s fin soup for us! It was the first time he cooked Sri Lankan crabs bought from Tekka market. We had expected to spend a bomb but it turned out cheaper than what we usually buy at the supermarket. $38 for two whopping giant crabs! And he did a good job of killing, cleaning, washing, cooking and serving us the crabs. By us, I really mean godma and me only. Zu didn’t even eat the crabs eventually because he had no appetite after cooking. But we let him finished up the shark’s fin soup while we happily ate the crabs. Godma was very impressed with both dishes and actually said that they were of restaurant standard. Though he didn’t showed it, I am sure he was swelling within. No pictures this time but there’s always the next time. Anyway, I’m likely to get my free camera so will be able to post more pictures soon! Yippee… :D

So you see, my menopausal mood is gone after eating the crabs. And last night I really had a nightmare about one of my assignments. Shit! I better get my arse moving… and better create a to-do list and STICK WITH IT!

Menopausal?

concocted on Sun, 18 Sep 2005 @ 7:46 am for Introspections

I’ve a confession to make. I’ve been fiddling and twiddling for weeks now. Fiddling with my blog and twiddling with my thumb. In short, “jou bo”.

This is a slow month in terms of work, and frankly, I don’t feel like working. I’ve been procrastinating on a few new projects and it probably won’t be long before I wake up panicking in the middle of the night.

We’ve had some good news in our household this week. News that we’ve been waiting for awhile. However, even that didn’t make me jump with joy. In fact, it create some new insecurities for me. Maybe I’m just too worrisome and have been weighed down by some setbacks.

First, work. My colleague just broke some unpleasant news to me last week. News that I kind of expected, but nonetheless annoyed. Apparently, she was told that she would be shelved for a couple of months and some of us might be too. So that would mean no income for some months. And what’s distressing is that the management is hush hush about everything. All I can say is that we part-timers always get marginalised. What to do? It’s after all my choice to work part-time. So I’ve to learn to live with the uncertainties and sometimes, the consequences. As in everything else, there are two sides to a coin. What’s fortunate is that I’ve pre-empted this and have been working on other opportunities.

Then, there are relationship problems. Such as with MIL and some bozo I work with. Buzzing irritation that I can’t get rid of totally, unfortunately. So again, I’ve to learn to deal with the situation.

I guess I’m just depressed but no, it’s not mid life crisis. That’s a has-been for me. So now, it’s probably PMS. Or is this the onset of MENOPAUSE? But I’m not yet 40 leh… :(

Organic food shopping

concocted on Sat, 17 Sep 2005 @ 8:19 am for Eats

Went organic food shopping this morning at Nature’s Glory, located at Tan Boon Liat Building. Not a very cool location indeed, but this is where I visit on a monthly basis to replenish the organic foodstuff for Gavin.

seaweedSan introduced this place to me two years ago when I wanted to start Gavin on his brown rice diet. The prices are cheaper, as compared to those at Tanglin Mall or the supermarkets. This place also stocks a wide variety of organic food items - from grains, cooking ingredients, beverages to tidbits. Apart from the short grain brown rice, I usually buy the barley and shoyu for Gavin and the sea salt and sugar for ourselves. One of my favourite buys at this place is the Me-Hijiki Seaweed. Again, thanks to San’s recommendation. I use them to cook Gavin’s food as these seaweed from Japan are a rich source of iodine, calcium and vitamin B12. I can also use them to fry a tasty dish of cabbages and carrots. And even though a small packet of 50g cost $5.30, it can last me for a month as I only need a bit of it for each dish.

Nature’s has also recently started to offer fresh vegetables and fruits. However, I hardly buy them unless they’re on offer. Anyway, I can find cheaper organic tomatoes and corns from the NTUC supermarkets these days under the Daisee brand.

Well, I’m definitely no hard-core organic food advocate as they do not come cheap. But I’ll definitely like Gavin to have the best, for what I can afford.
