Yesterday Alyson asked me if Gavin can speak. So I told her that he’s fairly talkative and decided to post his speech update here.

Fave words: car! water! fountain! fire! campfire! waterfall! ripples!

New words: beautiful. scenic. oval. dodecahedron. scotchtape. flickering.

Fave phrases: go sit car! go see water! got fountain? up up down down! incredible daddy upstairs! I love incredible boy! I love Dash!

Funny pronunciations: macdonalds pronouned as mac-m-donalds. scrapbook pronounced as scratchbook.

Self invented phrases: mummy do yoga. I love don’t want ma-ma (when his paternal grandma insist he says “I love you” to her).

Parroting: slap you then you know. go and sit there by yourself. want to drink milk?

We must be careful not to use KNN, CCB or other abusive words in front of him. He NEVER fails to surprise us.

Anyway, I’ve also started to teach him phonics as he can now recognise his ABC’s and can almost sing the entire alphabet song. Yesh I know some people will say I’m kiasu. But children at his age really have a lot of capacity to learn and it has been proven that they are able to read at around three or four years old. Well, it’s never too young to learn.

He’s been learning mostly through books and a cassette tape but I’ve been wanting to introduce him to a suitable computer lesson. Just that there are just so many around and I’m not entirely sure of what is good. I bought this “I Love Phonics” CD yesterday only because it looks appealing enough. Hopefully it is as interesting… But first, I need to figure out how to navigate within the programme.
