I wonder if I’ve visitors who come in here thinking that this is a culinary blog, but only to be disappointed. Well, for the record, I hardly cook. Not that I can’t, but I don’t quite enjoy cooking. I can whip up pretty standard Chinese dishes, but don’t expect anything too exciting or exotic. In our household, it’s the man who can cook well. At least, Zu can prepare far more interesting dishes like pepper crap, butter prawns, poach chicken or mock shark’s fin soup. Dishes which I’ve not experimented with, and probably won’t since I get served on the platter anyway. And daily cooking is much left to the maid, who fortunately, picks up instructions quickly.
Well, cooking is a waste of time for me. I’ll rather spend the time with my child and have someone serve me the food. I also don’t see a need to experiment with cooking since in Singapore, good food is just around the corner. So that doesn’t motivate me to want to try new recipes. Haha, excuses…
But I love food of course. Who doesn’t? Especially Japanese food. Oh, I just love anything Japanese lah. Many years ago, I attended a Japanese cookery lesson, but my real objective was to eat the food. So until now, I don’t know how to prepare any Japanese dishes, except miso soup. Now, I’m craving for ramen, especially at Ichibantei. Since Ah Pui at cuppage closed shop, I’ve tried a few places but only found this place at Robertson Quay which serves delicious ramen. Not the Ajisen type hor. This is authentic, slurpy Japanese ramen. The prices are reasonable too, and they’re so professional that they even have a website here.
Actually I crave for ramen almost everyday. But I can’t afford to eat at Ichibantei daily. So I buy packet ramen from Isetan basement. Not bad too.
I’m really hungry with all this talk about food. So I’m going have a plate of char kuay teow now.
