casserole of my life

Kid’s play

concocted on Tue, 9 Aug 2005 @ 10:43 am for Parenting

San was so sweet to drive all the way down to pass me this set of “I Love Vegetable” toys for Gavin this week. Her husband and his sister are selling these Max educational toys and she had kept this set aside for my boy.

Gavin went “chop, chop, chop” for an hour with these, but he quickly outgrew them and I suspect this set is probably too easy for his age. I may ask San to get me the number jigsaw or the geometric blocks. I’ve seen some of these toys being used in Montessori learning and I also learnt from a Japanese programme that wooden toys are especially beneficial because it reduces anxiety in children.

Anyway, apart from his cars, Gavin is mostly engrossed with his Incredibles. Now, he has an Incredible bagful of stickers, watches, T-shirts, books, trading cards, and what nots on the super family. Everyday, I have to read him the Incredible storybook, while he will try to mimic the actions or expressions he finds in there. One minute he will pretend to be Dash, running around in the house. The next minute, he will try to be Jack-Jack, the baby monster. I, on the other hand, have to repeatedly play the role of Incredible daddy and mummy, which can get really tiring. However, I am very happy that Gavin is very clear about his gender orientation as up to now, he has never tried to play Violet.
