Splashing aliens

I was very intrigued by this piece of news about a sighting of a huge sea creature in Ningbo City of east China’s Zhejiang Province.

According to the report in Today Morning Express, fisherman Liu, who lives in Yangshashan of Chunxiao Town in Beilun District was shocked by the sight of a huge creature lying dead beside the seawall near his home on July 23. According to Liu and other villagers, the creature was larger than a whale and is nearly 12 meters long and weighs around 2 tons. It was said to have a long thin head and a snout nearly one meter long.

Partly rotten, with its spine exposed, it has been impossible to identify, but has been described as having some hair, and orange stripes across a three to four-meter wide belly. The skull alone weighs over 100 kg.

Someone from Beilun’s sea and fishery bureau said its overall structure means it’s unlikely to be a fish, as the shape of its head is like a crocodile’s. Other fishermen have speculated it to be an elephant seal. An expert from Ningbo University’s sea creature research center who has not seen the animal said the possibility of it being a huge crocodile was slim, for they usually live in tropical freshwater. He also doubted that it could be an elephant seal, saying it would be hard to explain how one got to the subtropical East China Sea from polar waters.

Whoo Hoo! Our own Asian Nessie? Whao….. I’m sure this is an immigrant although I doubt it swam all the way from Loch Ness. That’s a lot of mass to move…..

But isn’t this exciting? We’re talking about underwater aliens living on this earth! For all we know, there could even be a whole colony of such creatures beneath us! Descendants of the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea (Dong Hai Long Wang)!

Actually, I have always feared the unfathomed depths of the sea. To me, it is another dimension which we cannot totally comprehend. Even though we have the ability to access it, we aren’t able to explore all the depth. So it is not possible for us to know every living organism that dwells within that deep blue sea. Perhaps there is really another kingdom that we are not even aware of? Heard of the Caspian Runan-shah? This is the mysterious marine humanoid spotted at the coastal areas around the southern and southwestern Caspian Sea.

According to eye witnesses, his height is 165-168 cm, he has a strong build, a protruding ctenoid stomach, his feet are pinniped and he has four webbed fingers on either of his hands. His skin is of moonlight color. The hair on his head looks black and green. His arms and legs are shorter and heavier than those of a medium-built person. Apart from his fingernails, he has nails growing on the tip of his aquiline nose that look like a dolphin’s beak. No information as to his ears. His eyes are large and orbicular. The mouth of the creature is fairly large, his upper jaw is prognathic and his lower lip flows smoothly into the neck, his chin is missing.

Holy turtles!!! Imagine coming face-to-face with some morbid looking merman???? Arrrgggh….so creepy.

This is why I have never gone diving and will never will, even though I love corals to death. The furthest I would do is snorkeling, and even then, I have always snorkeled in fear because my imaginations can really run wild when I’m in the water. This reminds me of a time when I swam across Sentosa lagoon and all the while gripping my partner tightly because I had imaginined a super-colossal turtle residing within that lagoon. Yeah I know……super-colossal turtle probably can’t fit into the lagoon!

But strangely, despite my fear of the sea, I am fascinated with sea monsters. Particularly Loch Nessie. I would like a chance to see it and to admire it. From a safe distance of course. But the last time I was in Scotland, I had no chance to explore that area at all. Well, hopefully another time, or maybe another life. It’s also interesting that according to a theory, the Caspian Runan-shah creature is a family of underwater humans who are on a mission to tackle environmental problems of the Caspian. Underwater supernaturals to salvage the ruins contributed by humans?

Wow….so magical.

  1. [...] I have very mixed feelings about what is under the sea.  On one level, I enjoy the awesome sight of colourful fishes and corals when snorkeling.  Yet, on another deeper level, I’m very fearful of what lies beneath.  Which is why I never took up diving.  In fact I wrote an entry about this fear last year titled Splashing Aliens.  Here’s an extract: Actually, I have always feared the unfathomed depths of the sea.
